  • Unable to stop auto play on video

Deleting this app because of the constant videos playing. Mostly bad ads. But even the content provided cannot be set to not automatically play. Have to use reader view in the web.

Just don’t read yellow press. No facts, just hateful preaching and judgmental nonsense.
  • Won’t update

Won’t open without an update. But won’t update. So basically this app no longer functions at all.
  • Latest update requires iOS 16.

I have iPhone 7 +. Which can only run iOS 15.8.3. Your latest update opens pop up window that forces me to App Store to update NYT and blocks me from using app at all now. App Store description says it will work on my phone which is false. After clicking on “will work on this phone” link, it says it requires ios 16 which my phone can’t run . 1) That should be made clear in app description. “will work on this phone” statement is false. 2) I cannot be the only long time reader, we’ll over 20 years, that is still using an iPhone 7 that can’t run iOS 15. It is very inconsiderate and presumptuous of you to create an app update that prevents loyal readers running older iOS from using your app. Unlike Washington Post or WSJ, The New Yorker… very disappointed.
  • Today’s Paper issue

The Today’s Paper no longer reliably refreshes. This is my favorite way to read the news but I often cannot get it to switch from an old day, even if I restart my phone. It’s not a connection issue, as individual articles load fine.
  • Accessibility concerns

App doesn’t respect accessibility setting completely. In some sections (e.g. wirecutter), font size settings are not used, resulting in tiny text. To repeat: go to Wirecutter from the header menu, click on any story. Display has different fonts, and doesn’t adhere to the dark/light settings. Please fix.

Excellent content in a very frustrating format
  • $25/month!?

NYT’s pro-Israel and corporate bias is bad enough — especially considering journalism’s supposed role in speaking truth to power. Now that my promotional rate ended, it wants to charge me $25 a month just for the app. How about reporting on the fact that wages haven’t gone up since the last century, and big businesses’ political power grabs and how working class exploitation means that folks like me can’t afford your prices?
  • Manual Update

After having NYT auto-update the active news feed I was reading so many time, I discovered you can disable that from happening. Amazing! Now when I open the app I see a white capsule with a spinning circle at the top of the screen when I open the app which doesn’t go away (so it’s not actually refreshing) until I manually pull down the screen to refresh.
