I will not review the news content here, though to be sure I have a LOT to say on that topic (especially the past few years). Re the app: Sometimes you can’t save articles, other times the app crashes every few minutes for no rhyme or reason. Since two updates ago, now every time you click on an article to read it, it hangs there with a “loading” spinning wheel for half a minute or more before going to the article. For a newspaper with such a high caliber of journalist, you’d think the app team would be more on top of things. I’m an experienced user and restarting the app makes no difference, nor does deleting and reinstalling the app.
  • Notifications are part of propaganda support system

The notifications are always timed not with breaking news but with evolving narratives. Was difficult to resolve billing issues as the published email on PayPal is a no reply email box. Had to utilize stop payment to unsubscribe. Notifications were not in line with preferences and interests. Not a good app. Can just occasionally view website and or buy a paper for better control.
  • A solute trash app

The NY Times is great, this app is garbage. If I open the app it either displays nothing but a black screen, or it takes me to a screen to choose notifications with no way to actually leave that screen. The only way to use the app is to google a nytimes article, then open that into the app. Absolutely ridiculous. One of the least usable apps in the App Store.
  • A Total Waste

I'm calling subscription services in the morning and asking for subscription refunds. The app (if you can call it that) freezes constantly while apparently loading advertising. This daily reader of the NYT since the early 60s advises anyone considering the online subscription to save their money and consider alternatives. Was this version even tested? Some words of advise from an old programmer: antagonistic testing. Test it like you want to break it, not simply get it stick on the wall.

I enjoy reading the NYTimes from my phone. I access it for free through my local library.

  • They Can’t Keep Up

I live and work in DC. I have a front row seat to what is happening. The NYT can’t keep up with it all. When we need them the most the Times is letting us down.
  • Redesigned UI is awful

Stop pushing content on people. I don’t care about TheWireCutter (a formerly reliable review site that is now just a shill) or The Athletic (I subscribe to the paper of record, not Sports Illustrated) to name a few. At least let us choose the sections that dominate the app.
  • Dislike Bar at Top

I like this app because it always works well, unlike some smaller papers where you have to sign in again from time to time, or the links don’t work. I do not like the new design in that the “choices” bar is at the top. It is a visual distraction from reading articles. I liked the bar at the bottom better.
