Won’t let me read articles as a NYT all access subscriber. NYT even acknowledged my subscription! Piss poor.
  • Notifications are the app’s main issue

This review is about the app notifications appears the writing and reporting. The app is fine except for notifications. 1. Comments. A user may enter comments and replies but it is impossible to find them and you aren’t notified if you have a direct tagged reply. 2. App icon badge. I frequently see numbers on the app icon but clicking on the app does not take you to a queue where you can review nor does it identify stories or messages. 3. A notification queue just doesn’t exist.
  • Subscription features don’t work

I am a NYTs subscriber but something apparently gets lost along the way when I try to use this app. Simple features like gifting articles fail and I keep getting error messages. Not the seamless experience I am paying for

I follow every MLB team and F1 and the feed was glorious. But now it’s like you don’t even care what I follow because I get football, tiger woods, March madness, wwe, and I have to scroll the entire page to get to Jayson Stark or any baseball news. Give me back my preference focused feed! You have the news headline box to tout other things but give me everything baseball or I might as else just read the baseball writers feed in bluesky and be done with you It’s bad enough that you do not have the foresight to understand that having a local beat reporter is what made the athletic a must have app. But tons of MLB teams don’t have a beat reporter any more. And some teams have two. no One has local sports coverage any more as local news is dying and you have the opportunity to fill that gap with local beat writers. You have to profits, invest in the journalism like you did with the NYT. Why don’t you get that if you build local, people will come? I want to root for you but you make it hard
  • Payment Confirmation Issues

I want to be very clear.. this is not a one star review for the actual product, this is mostly a petty review for my frustration over the past week, and I’ve had enough of it. Now, I was signed up for a yearly subscription and my last payment was March. Since then, I changed bank accounts, so last week the website and app started showing a banner telling me I need to change my payment information. All I’m genuinely trying to do is complain because I’m upset and I really do enjoy The Athletic and could legitimately give it a 5 Star review. I changed my payment information and yet the payment still hasn’t seemed to go through the banner is still on the screen. Now I know i could just ignore it and keep reading, but the banner is annoying and it’s annoying cause I did what it said and it still didn’t go away. If you are considering subscribing and wanna know if you should, you should, if you work for The New York Times, please fix this issue with my account. The payment should be updated and I’m tired of your website trying to tell me that it is not.

    Nyt sucks these days
  • Sends way too many notifications, not classified properly

This app sends way too many notifications. I turned on breaking news for the one or two teams that I’m interested in and expect breaking news like for example, injuries or other urgent information. This app thoroughly abuses its built-in classifications and sends special interest stories when all you’ve turned on is, for example, Breaking News notifications. I guess I’ll just delete the app.
  • Not enough customization available

How can I get NBA coverage without having to see articles pop up about the Lakers and Thunder? You can add favorite teams but should be able to block teams from showing up.
  • Great App that doesn’t play well with others

The content is first rate, but the absolute inability to have a link in X, FB, or IG open the app is pathetic. Folks should lose their jobs because of this!

Since NYT took over, the ads are over the top to include no podcast ads previously if you were a subscriber. Now that’s over.
