Description

Nintendo Switch Parental Controls™ is a free app for smart devices to keep you engaged with your family's gaming activities on Nintendo Switch. ◆ A Nintendo Switch console with the latest available system version is required to use this app. This is recommended for people worried about things such as: 1. Is my child spending too much time playing games? 2. What kind of games is my child playing? 3. Are the games my child is playing age-appropriate? Below are three special features of the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app: 1. Monitor play time on your console. Set a play-time limit and the console will notify users that the time limit has been reached. Parents and guardians can check the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app to see if the time limit has been followed. It is also possible to suspend gameplay automatically when the play-time limit is reached. 2. Check up on your console's gameplay. The summary function allows you to easily see what games have been played on the console recently and how much time was spent playing each day. View daily reports and monthly summaries of play activity. If you choose to receive push notifications, you'll be notified when a new monthly summary is available. It's an easy way to see what kind of games your family is interested in. 3. Restrict console features. Nintendo Switch functions can be restricted to prevent the console from playing games above a certain age rating. Attention: ◆ An Internet connection is required to use this app. Cellular data may be used. A Nintendo Account (for ages 18 and up) is also required. ◆ Restrictions to Nintendo eShop purchases can be set from Nintendo Account settings. ◆ Your use of this app is subject to the Nintendo Account User Agreement available at support.nintendo.com. ◆ In order to make use of all of the features and settings available in the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, all registered Nintendo Switch consoles need to be using the latest system version.

  • Great. But…

Needs a setting of 0 minutes so device can be disabled. Inexplicably choices only include 15min-6 hours in 15 minute increments. Or unlimited.
  • Good but could be so much more..

Features I’d like to see added: - time of day restrictions - specific game restrictions (allow/disallow specific games; time limits for specific games; etc.) The app would be much more useful if these controls were available.

Ok as a kid that has had this on for a while by my parents I’m going to say I absolutely hated it because if I didn’t want to play when I had screen time but I did after well I couldn’t, also it’s just plain annoying to constantly have to worry about my time On my experiences let your kids have no limits you can set age restrictions tho but by letting your kid play with no limit they will play a lot it the beginning but after they will realize they can play whenever so they will play less not all the time cause when I knew it would cut me off at a certain time I didn’t want to do any chores or anything till after my time but when I got it unlimited I didn’t need to worry about that And to the parents please don’t threaten to take your child’s time away for every thing they do wrong that is the worst thing you can do to punish your child at least for me that gave me very bad anger issues It’s not a bad app but it’s just so annoying as a kid
  • Not enough options

Compared to Apple screen time controls this app is a big disappointment. You are only able to limit amount of time and bed time. At a minimum you should be able to set up windows of time when your child can play. I am considering getting rid of the switch altogether. I think Nintendo should be able to do much better than this.
  • You do not give parents enough cp trol

Your limits on play time are ridiculous and designed to encourage addiction. Parents should be able to set the limit to 0 minutes and not allow any play time on days that they want to select. Your “restrictions” are laughable. I regret buying the switch and think your “parental control” product is laughable. Very unhappy with the user experience here.
  • Great parenting tool

As a parent we juggle many things in a daily basis with our kids. Having a way to limit our kid’s play time or set bed times is a great tool. I have screen time and bed time timers set on my son’s tablet. Lately he’s been gaming with his cousins and friends so he’s getting to the point to where he’s wanting to use his Nintendo more than I would like. The app allows you to set play time limits and customize bed times per day or have the same settings across the entire week. While this is a great tool, it can be improved by issuing a warning several minutes before their time expires. While as an adult I understand that these are just games, but as with anything in life, you’d hate to put in effort to have it simply wiped clean. Having a warning or some sort of countdown timer allows users to properly save any kind of progress they’ve made in a game and/or properly say bye to their friends/family if they’re playing online vs just abruptly suspending the game. The “suspend game” option could be disabled, allowing parents to instead place their child on the “honor system”. This creates the opportunity to teach them character qualities like integrity and responsibility by allowing them to make the correct choice and voluntarily shut down when their time expires. Having a visible timer or warning would help achieve this. Having a timer/warning as to what’s to come allows them to properly save their game and say goodbye, while simultaneously teaching them that choices have consequences. If you don’t manage your time properly, save your progress and say goodbye to your online pals, you’ll lose any progress made when console use is suspended (if suspend game option is activated).
  • Thanks for giving my child depression and anger issues

My child has always had a fun life but once we added this to the switch he has been tearing up at random times and gets really depressed. We used to think he has always had fun but he recently wrote an entire letter which he wrote his heart into, and had destroyed a plasma screen tv. Please fix everything about this app
  • Restrict doesn't work.

I’ve restricted a game from this app but a kid can still download it on Nintendo Switch. Please fix it ASAP.
