Description

With over 10 years in the App Store, Fender Notion is a free, award-winning music composition tool for iOS, iPadOS®, macOS and more! You’ll effortlessly create dynamic compositions in traditional musical notation or guitar tablature with its intuitive touch-based interface and incredibly broad editing capabilities. With a user-friendly interface and simple interactive piano keyboard, fretboard, drum pad, and even optional Handwriting Recognition, Fender Notion makes it easy to get started composing your music. You can also hear your music performed with the most realistic playback possible, using real audio samples recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. Fender Notion is a native cross-platform app, meaning you can write anywhere on any device without requiring a constant Internet connection. And when you’re back online, you’ll be able to sync your work across multiple devices — either through your preferred cloud provider, or through the optional wireless transfer between applications on any device. Start your work on one device and finish it on another. Once you are happy with your creation you can share the Notion file, or export as MIDI, MusicXML, PDF or as an audio file. Compose, edit, and play back your music performed with real piano and orchestral samples recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios — along with outstanding sampled guitar, bass, drums and other popular instruments. And when you’re ready for more sounds, you’ll find the extensive library of Notion Add-on Soundsets to purchase as part of the Feature Bundle. To save space, the initial app download contains just piano — you can then manage which of the bundled Soundsets to have on your device or keep in the cloud, just tap on Sound Installation. Notion has been featured in various Apple campaigns including the 2014 YourVerse television commercials and has won several awards, including a prestigious music industry NAMM TEC Award for Best Smartphone/Tablet App. What you get: Fender Notion includes unlimited staves, comprehensive editing features and core orchestral and rhythm section Soundsets — all for free. You can optionally register (also for free!) to unlock an additional Soundset (containing Solo Strings, Classical Saxophones and Glockenspiel), and the multivoice function that allows writing in up to 4 voices per staff. Then for the full experience, either sign in with your Fender Studio Pro+ membership or purchase the Notion Feature Bundle. This unlocks Handwriting Recognition, Layout Controls, all the Expansion Soundsets (including many auxiliary instruments and additional articulations and effects), additional audio export formats (m4a, OPUS, FLAC) and direct file transfer between Fender Notion and Fender Studio Pro running on the same network. Free: Unlimited staves All editing features Core Soundsets Export as MusicXML, Compressed MusicXML, MIDI, PDF, wav, mp3 Welcome Pack (register for free): Soundset including Solo Strings, Glockenspiel, Classical Saxophones Additionally write for voices 3 and 4 in a single staff Feature Bundle (in-app purchase or sign in with Fender Studio Pro+): Handwriting Recognition, powered by MyScript Available on iPhone, iPad and macOS (macOS with supporting graphics tablet or using Sidecar with compatible iPad) Automatic pen vs. finger recognition to switch between handwriting and edit mode Pressure-sensitive support for Apple Pencil Adjustable timer for Handwriting Recognition Override handwriting timer by double tapping Apple Pencil (2nd Gen) Layout Control All Expansion Soundsets Additional audio export formats (m4a, OPUS, FLAC) Direct file transfer between Fender Notion or Fender Studio Pro running on the same network

Great app supper amazing I have one issue though theres a lack of percussion instruments I really want like wind chimes and more. Also we need instruments like the alto clarinet which would make a huge impact on the game also we need other instruments that are able to do glissandos like flutes saxs every instrument need to be able to do a fall or a glissando not just jazz instruments that would really help In making fun tunes that would sound really nice also can we have more sound effects? I feel like the instruments should have a setting in tools where you can add a sound effect like shhhh or haaa and like claps, stomps a way to blow into the instrument without making sound like a wind sound effect. Other than that the game is really great and awesome hope the developers can see this and try to make it like that I known programming the instruments is hard but hope you can pull through.
  • Fender eliminated the ability to make custom fret diagrams!

Until recently it was possible to make custom chord diagrams, but Fender has nerfed that useful feature. Interestingly, they ‘bumped’ a 4 year old review (see: ‘Chord diagrams Editing? New Sub model…’) to make it seem like it wasn’t possible. Removing features we paid for is unethical at best. I have been using this app for several years, and now have moved over to the lifetime purchase of Dorico - which is a much better app. Ditch Fender, they are getting too greedy with their new subscription scheme.

My problem with this app is that after some time and having paid for the pro version, I can no longer log in; the app is unresponsive. It tells me I have an account, but when I try to reset my password, it says I don't have an account. How is this possible?

It’s a very nice app, but the audio should be handled in the background, it takes all audio off.
  • DO NOT UPGRADE - Fender locking features we already paid for

Looks like fender somehow got control of this app and are now locking features some of us paid for and forcing some subscription. I will not upgrade and won’t be buying any more Fender guitars.
  • Chord Diagrams Editing? New Sub model to use Apple Pencil!

First I’d like say, I’ve tried all the music notation apps out for iPad, and have found Dorico to be the most full feature but Notion to be the easiest interface to use. I’ve used this app on and off for a long time; since it came out around 10 years I guess. There was a pretty big update maybe 3 years ago. The Updates have been slow to come. And for an app that calls itself “Music & Tab it’s a shame it can’t do the basic chord diagram editing, yet! Yes, you can (only see) guitar diagrams ( but can use ukulele w/in a guitar window?) but the library is still fairly limited. Again, no GUITAR DIAGRAM EDITING option like Dorico offers. Bye, Dorico’s monthly subscription is $4.99! As well, In the past we could use Apple Pencil, free of charge now you have to shell out $19.99 per month. Sure they FINALLY fixed the Export & Transfer features, layout and formatting & added cross platform options. But I don’t need the other options of the Studio Pro (formerly Fender Studio) subscription, which includes: DAW & hardware options... just want to use the Apple Pencil but $20 bucks a month. Any chance you guys can offer a basic version of the app for lead sheet writing with Apple Pencil usage, for those of us wanting to bang out music for rock band.. to Jazz quintet for less $, because I just can’t justify the per/yearly cost for my needs for things I won’t use now or mostly likely not in the future.
  • Fender left orchestral composers

The 2026 ver removed VST, exp maps (rules), and steps away from libs like Spitfire/Berlin… where StaffPad merged them into its design. For small songs, sure. This app works. For orchestra / pro use, start w/ StaffPad then maybe Cubase if you want to spend a lot more.
