  • Awful application that only brings frustration

Awful application, one of the worst UX I ever saw with matching being absolutely broken (e.g., no matter what therapist sex preference I choose I get the same 3 therapists recommended).

Talkspace handles things in a backwards fashion. Upon sign up, I thought they initially ran my insurance and that I was covered. So I went ahead to book a session and then a week later they send me an email to inform me they had charged me. There is no way I would have agreed to a session that I would have had to pay $125 out of pocket for. They just charged me, informed after the fact then passed the buck to the insurance. The honorable thing to do would have been to ask me if I was aware my insurance doesn’t cover this session and I would have chosen to apply a promo code or declined/cancelled altogether so I’d have the opportunity to get help in network. Talkspace removed that chance for me to do so. The way they handled getting prior authorization from me on what I was willing to pay was poorly executed. There is a disregard of assuring people that they are covered or informing them when they are not. I was stripped of the choice of whether or not I wanted service from them. So I’m beyond dissatisfied, I’m disgusted with Talkspace.
  • Extremely difficult to view/receive invoices

There is no component in the app or website that allows you to view session history, provider history, amounts billed, etc. To view/obtain this information I had to email their support FOUR times and it only took a MONTH for them to email back with this “super bill.” The second time I needed to request this information, their support responded in a few days but sent a super bill showing only 2 of 4 sessions from a totally different month than requested! Absolutely absurd to force patients to go on a whole quest to view their billing and session records in 2024.

My two providers are top-notch and the best I've ever had. I am just sad my insurance won't cover the services.

Love my therapist, the fact that I don’t have to go to an office is what sold me, I’m more comfortable at home which is beneficial for dealing with my disorder.

I’ve been using Talkspace for about 9 months and I have no complaints. Everything is user friendly and there are many options of care. The other day I accidentally missed an appointment so I submitted a request to refund the no-show fee. I had never missed an appointment so I was hoping for a waiver. Right after I submitted the request I called customer support just in case I wouldn’t hear back promptly, knowing they probably had many customers needing help. I called IMMEDIATELY after I submitted the request and it had already been taken care of, refund in process already. Their customer support team deserves so much praise for working as quickly as they did to help me. I would absolutely recommend Talkspace!

160$ for a couple basic messages that didn’t make me feel any better. Tried three therapists, one didn’t reply for 5 days and the other told me they wouldn’t help me unless I upgrade to pay extra for a live session. Really disappointing and would highly recommend not using Talkspace.
  • Small Talk, Not Mental Healthcare

Both providers through the messaging option did not provide any resources or advice. First provider clearly did not ingest what I’d said previously and therefore kept telling me to do things I was already doing, then starting communicating less. Second provider again offered no advice and very few responses to what I’d said. It felt more like I was talking to a half-interested acquaintance than a mental healthcare provider. Not worth $300 a month, maybe worth $50 a month at best.
