Description

Card-Driven Game of the Most Notorious of Political Scandals. Will Nixon triumph in his tug of war with the Press or will the truth be exposed? In Watergate, one player assumes the role of a Washington Post Journalist, while the other embodies the Nixon Administration—each with a unique set of cards. To win, the Nixon Administration must build up enough momentum to make it to the end of the presidential term, whereas the Journalist must gather enough evidence to connect two informants directly to the President. Of course, the administration will do all in its power to smother any evidence. Watergate: The Board Game is a faithful adaptation of the original board game. • A great game, implementation needs work

The original board game is extremely well-designed and smart, but simple enough for almost anyone to learn the rules. The app is a faithful adaptation and a great way to do a quick round of a great game on the go. What keeps it from being 5 stars for me is that for a game with such a small board and small number of pieces, it’s actually quite unsuited to a phone screen. The informant spaces around the edge of the board are tiny, in an unreadable typeface, and there’s no option to magnify them so unless you have the board layout memorized, you’re flying blind. Card text is mostly readable but still harder than it needs to be, so that’s better but still not ideal. Fix this somehow and you’ve got a must-buy for anyone who digs strategy games.

After playing with the game for several days. It is addicting. Yes, there can be some UI improvements which I hope are rolled out and an easier way to hide the cards and such if you want to see the board state, but I see continued updates with pads and play as well as the AI. The enhancement of having “Display Icons for Card Actions” is a wonderful add. Also, the music slaps.
  • Crashes frequently

Three attempted solo games, three crashes, unable to continue any of them. So, it’s unplayable in its current form.
