Description

The Unarchiver is a small and easy to use program that can unarchive many different kinds of archive files. It will open common formats such as Zip, RAR (including v5), 7-zip, Tar, Gzip and Bzip2. It will also open many older formats, such as StuffIt, DiskDoubler, LZH, ARJ and ARC. It will even open other kinds of files, like ISO and BIN disc images, some Windows .EXE installers. The list is actually much longer - see the program homepage for the full list. The Unarchiver also tries to detect and correctly handle the filename encoding in the archives it opens, allowing you to open files from every part of the world without getting garbled filenames. The Unarchiver aims to be the only unarchiving program you will ever need, and to stay out of your way. Also, if you need to open archives on your iPad or iPhone, look for "Archives" on the App Store, or go to https://theunarchiver.com/archives. It is based on The Unarchiver, and lets you easily handle Archives on iOS!

  • Once great, recently gone downhill

This simple app has been handy for years. Recent releases have ads, and pleas for war-torn entities. Features have stopped working, such as the Compact Pro archive feature, which I rely on.
  • Extremely Disappointed

I’ve been using this app for years, probably since it was released and now it shows banner ads that force the app to stay open after uncompressing a file. I’ll be uninstalling it and looking for an alternative.

Why am I being forced to see ads, before AND after decompressing a file?
  • Has ads now! Get Keka instead

Get Keka instead! I have been a happy user of The Unarchiver for many years. But now all of a sudden it has ads even though I paid for it.
  • Why must developers ruin a great app with ads?!

A small banner ad now appears every time I unpack a compressed file. This is just unacceptable. I like many others am now deleting this app and looking for alternatives.

Sold out to macpaw and now shows ads even in the paid version with no way to check for purchases.

This used to be my go-to app for extracting .rar files, but I haven’t used it in a while, and now it pops up ads for scamware whenever you use it. That is extremely disappointing.

  • Banner Ads!

I started to see banner ads. Then checked preferences and learned they’ve been collecting data and don’t divulge what data, suggesting all allowed. Deleted.
