I used to enjoy Manta because the novels were free. Now it’s on the same monetized coin/gem/whatever to unlock an episode format that every other app is. Not worth the download anymore.
  • Paying for it is pointless

I love manta and I’ve been subscribed for a long time with unlimited which you pay for monthly but they added gems and now you need to also buy gems for certain books so you have to pay a subscription fee and then more to actually use your subscription it’s frustrating.
  • gems?

i had manta like two years ago when the price was lower and understandable that the price of the subscription goes up due to inflation. However, the fact that it is deemed unlimited but I am already paying a subscription and have to purchase gems to read some of my favorite comics is absurd to me.

The subscription is very limited the app is buggy and the authors always go on hiatus for months or years at a time. Also a lot of the stories are very similar there is no real variety.
  • Over monetization

It used to be great, but so many things I’ve been reading have been removed or switched to subscription only when I was midway through and they were previously free

I absolutely love that manta is subscription based, and the price is great. Every other web comic app I've tried makes you pay PER CHAPTER. You'd have to pay almost 20 bucks, give or take, for some of those apps just to read a one season for one story, sometimes more. That 20 dollars would be 5 months with manta with unlimited reading. Besides that, I love the stories on here. Edit: taking away my 5 stars because manta decided to care more about over profiting and implemented "gems" and you now have to pay per chapter for some stories even with a subscription. No longer a fan and probably wont stay around for long
  • Misleading Subscriptions

I used to love manta, but then it steadily got worse. I decided to leave the app behind for apps more well-liked. After a long, time I decided to go back to it- a choice I now regret. I saw they still had subscriptions and decided to go with that because that was what I was used to. The subscription tells you that it is "unlimited" and pretty much says you can read whatever you want whenever on the app. This is not true. After buying the subscription, I soon found this out. I tried reading comics only to find them still locked behind a paywall. Practically half the comics on manta you need to pay for separately with a gem currency. I quite literally only read one free chapter before I found this out. And as many of you probably already know, manta does not do refunds. Most likely because of this exact reason. I am vastly disappointed. Manta continuously proves why it is the inferior webcomic app. I wouldn't be so upset if they were upfront with the subscription limits instead of being round-about/lie about it. If it was clear from the beginning I would've never purchased the subscription but instead gems for the comics I actually liked. This is probably why they resorted to false advertising and round about wording. Continue to line your pockets with lies, manta. I will take my money else where. I suggest you do as well.

I really enjoyed this app at the beginning. That’s why I got the monthly subscription but now half the new stories that are added are ones you have to buy gems for which I think is annoying. I’m already paying five dollars a month to read and now I’m having to pay more to read stories if it keeps up like this. I’m definitely going to cancel.

Each series starts strong with a nice long weekly episode. Once it’s popular you will get fewer episodes a month. And then you will start getting episodes that are one third white space. One top of that, now most new stories cost more, on top of the subscription. Once I finish my current stories, I’m done. What’s the point of buying a subscription if you are still stuck behind a paywall?! It’s getting cheaper to just buy some manga at this point.
