Overall this is a very fun game. I would say that the progression feels heavy. You get items to equip to character, but then the items need to be upgraded with materials that you rarely get unless you destroy other items. That on top of constantly upgrading characters in a variety of ways kind of takes time and attention away from the actual gameplay. Additionally, you have to focus resources on upgrading items for some characters while neglecting others, which ultimately reduces the fun of trying new characters that are far behind.

I was looking for other games to play while my energy recharged for Tacticus, and I found this game, which is basically the same format but with a different theme. Overall, I would say I like Rivengard better than Tacticus because it does not rely so heavily on getting specific characters from the summoning portal: all levels can be played with whatever characters you want. Instead of a split between factions for the Onslaught and Treasure Beach (Salvage Run) battle modes, there is just one, and you only need gold to upgrade abilities, not any other badges. As you progress through Onslaught in Rivengard, you can also get entire characters at certain levels. The downside is that the chapters get difficult pretty fast. They don’t start over in difficulty each time like in Tacticus; chapter 2 is more difficult than chapter 1 and it keeps getting more difficult. There are four chapters total in campaign mode, each with 75 levels (plus their Elite campaign counterparts). I have managed to 3-star chapters 1 and 2 regular campaign mode with only Uncommon level characters, but I am slogging through chapter 3 using Uncommon. There are a handful of characters that you can raid levels to unlock at their Rare form once you beat a certain level, but you will likely be raiding that level for some time and hoping for assistance through the summoning portal before you can unlock them as rare characters which need like 200 shards. Since this game isn’t the same money-grab as Tacticus, it doesn’t have too many events or updates. Even though the levels take a while to beat, they are still pretty fun, and I think the music and artwork is a little more cheery and relaxing.

Guys I have played hundreds of games and everyone is right here. This is just a money grab. Well developed and I get it but this one is a tad on the ridiculous side. I don’t have a million dollars to make this game enjoyable. Nice try devs! I would say make it better but you won’t so keep scraping in your measly profits from the couple whales that play. Hopefully your next “development” isn’t the greediest I’ve ever seen.

Logged in after a while and everything was gone. I paid money for different packs and I guess they stole that from me…great work devs…ugh.

This game had a lot of potential. The graphics are good, the characters are interesting, and the table top style game play is fun. But the game very quickly becomes a total grind. Any progress requires characters to advance, and that’s an incredibly slow and expensive slog. You either need to spend outrageously or still spend a lot and invest tons of time repetitively using raid tickets for a increasingly slim chance of obtaining what you need to advance. There’s also an onslaught mode that can help you advance, but that can be used very infrequently. Otherwise, you quickly hit a point where there’s just not all that much to do. All this is fixable, but it doesn’t seem like the developers are interested in growing the game or devoting much thought to it.
