Description

Bark Kids is the free child companion app for both Bark and Bark Jr. To use it, you’ll need to have an established Bark account and install Bark Kids on your child’s device. Here are the features this app enables: SCREEN TIME MANAGEMENT Families can set healthy time limits and create schedules for when their children’s devices can connect to the internet (through both cell service and Wi-Fi). WEB FILTERING Our web filter lets you select which websites your child can access on their devices. You can allow or block specific sites — or even whole categories like streaming services, online gaming, sexual content, and more. GPS-POWERED LOCATION TRACKING Bark’s robust location tracking enables you to track your child in real time on a map. You can even find out if they’re stationary, walking, biking, or moving in a car. CHECK-INS Check-Ins are an easy way for families to get peace of mind when their kids are out and about. Rather than sending a "Did you get there?" or "Where are you?" text, you can rely on a GPS-based location confirmation from your children to verify that they've safely arrived at their destinations. It can even give you step-by-step directions via Google Maps so you can meet them where they are if necessary. PERSONAL ACCOUNT CONNECTIONS The Bark Kids app allows kids to connect their own accounts to Bark’s monitoring service (not available with Bark Jr). By allowing them to connect directly to our monitoring service, they get more privacy without having to share their usernames or passwords. HOW BARK KIDS WORKS WITH THE BARK PARENT APP Download the Bark Parent companion app to manage your child’s entire digital world - Monitor texts, apps & social media - Create custom screen time schedules - Block websites & apps - Get insights into online activities - Track location WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING - "My wife and I LOVE Bark. We've had some tough but productive conversations with our 13-year-old son. It's proving to be extremely valuable." — Josh L. - “It’s just another set of protections we as parents give our kids for the digital environment (or as my 10-year-old calls it, a “cell phone seat belt”). My oldest is a 9th grader, and while I trust her, I’ve come to realize through the alerts that some of her friends aren’t truly her friends. It’s led to some amazing conversations about choosing friends wisely and recognizing toxic people. While she wasn’t for Bark at first, she’s since said she’s grateful that I saw those messages because it reaffirmed what she was feeling but didn’t know how to verbalize without sounding sensitive.” — Bark Parent - "Bark notified me that my young daughter had unknowingly revealed her phone number to strangers on Twitter. The fact that Bark notified me was impressive and led to an informative discussion with her the same day." — Jon B. - “Since Bark alerted us to the suicidal language used in the Google doc that was being used in a chat document with a friend, we have seen both a pediatrician and a licensed counselor. We are hopeful for a positive outcome. Thanks to Bark for letting us peek into our child’s mind!” — Bark Parent - “This app is a lifesaver! It has allowed us to catch so many “red flags” in the content my kids have accessed on their devices and in their interactions with friends and other people online that I wouldn’t have ever known about otherwise. The big difference between Bark and other “Parental Control” software is that Bark allows your kids to have so much more privacy. It doesn’t show you everything they do, but sends an instant alert regarding any activity that might be concerning. Highly recommended!” — Bark Parent With Bark, you can help keep your kids safe both online and in real life. Try it out for seven days absolutely free! Invades your children’s privacy and shows that you have no trust in them. If you aren’t going to let them have freedom on their phone don’t give them one in the first place. I will never use such apps on my kids.

Bark is horrible. I have never had such a horrible experience with an app. It would not let me go on any websites because it said that the web addresses were ‘invalid’. Also I hate that is has a vpn thingy so I can’t access any websites and when I turn my devices on I get this icon that says location. Honestly, JUST GET RID OF THIS APP. Also it doesn’t let me delete the app😡 Chat turn this off

Hey so im 14 and my mom recently put this in place. The idea behind this is good but a lot of the alerts are extremely unhelpful. So many of my texts were flagged as “sexual content” or “hate speech” or “self harm” when they have absolutely nothing to do with it. Dont get me wrong, some of the alerts are helpful but could be improved a lot. Another problem is the strict monitoring if the notes app. I used it to vent my frustration into the void, and it feels like your constantly being spied on when parents get alerts for stuff in there, and you cant express your feelings. Final thing that bugs me is the alert parents get when people you are subscribed to on youtube make a video and it gets flagged even if I didnt click on that video or watch it. It draws attention away from actually concerning texts, and overall it’s just unnecessary. The main reason for the two stars is because of how easy this thing is to bypass. It took me a few minutes to disable most of this stuff. Great vision, not the best execution
  • It’s sort of okay but needs improvement in my opinion

I like the app it’s good it keeps me safe but it flags songs or artists that have no explicit stuff in them it literally flagged frank sanataria and some of Louis Armstrongs songs at this point i should just delete everything on my phone and when I’m texting my friends for like a mental health check up or even texting my mom it flags them too and there’s nothing wrong with any of that stuff all I have to say for short good concept but bad setup
  • This app destroys trust and relationships

I strongly believe that completely monitoring everything your kid is doing especially through apps is ridiculous. Especially if that child is older. There comes a certain point in life when your teenager should be trusted because they are close to being an adult and they won’t want to stay in touch with their psycho helicopter parent who constantly takes their anger out on them. Using this for younger kids also shouldn’t be a thing because younger children shouldn’t have access to devices and spend their time having fun until they’re older. I believe there are rules that should be set but there should also be trust.
  • Annoying and Dumb

I get like a billion flags or whatever they’re called because of my friends texting me “inappropriate” words that are like the word stupid. It’s really annoying. The only thing you can do with it on your phone is check in so it’s super pointless. It also intrudes all your privacy and ruins all the freedom you have even though i’m sure quite a few teens with the app probably didn’t have any freedom to begin with but this app takes away the feeling of responsibility for me and honestly that’s not fair. It’s a terrible app and I think parents should try other techniques than this. I would rate this a zero if I could.

I get that this app is made to protect us from the dangers of the internet, but the fact that there is a VPN that I can’t turn off, (it messes with everything on my phone) and it decreases battery life, having my parents lecture me on how I’m “using my phone to much” when I’m not really.
