You can apply Grammarly’s suggestion with a single click, or expand the suggestion to learn more about it. ► Go beyond grammar Grammarly’s advanced spelling checker and grammar checker go far beyond the built-in tools of word processors. Grammarly can detect not only misspellings, but also commonly confused words used in the wrong context, like “affect” and “effect.” In addition, it can flag and fix complex grammar and punctuation issues like sentence fragments, comma splices, and subject-verb disagreement. But great writing is about much more than just grammar and spelling. That’s why Grammarly also helps you streamline wordy phrases and rewrite sentences that are likely to confuse readers. It also suggests word choice improvements to help keep readers engaged, and helps you adjust your tone to ensure you come across the way you intend. For students: Now available on the extension, our free beta auto-citations feature generates citations for online sources in seconds, without you having to enter any info manually or leave the web page. Get pre-formatted citations ready to go, whether you use APA, MLA, or Chicago. ► What’s included? ~ Free The free version of Grammarly includes basic writing suggestions designed to help you produce clean, mistake-free writing. • Grammar checker • Spelling checker • Punctuation checker • Tone detector • Auto-citations ~ Premium Grammarly Premium includes everything available for free, plus an expanded range of writing feedback designed to help you produce high-quality writing that makes an impact. • Clarity-focused sentence rewrites • Tone adjustments • Vocabulary improvements (word choice, formality level) • Fluency suggestions • Additional advanced suggestions ► Works where you write Grammarly is designed to work seamlessly in your browser—no copying or pasting required. • Great in 2020 but not anymore.

Before 2020, I was more than happy to spend over $150 on a six-month subscription. However, with the rise of artificial intelligence options, this app just doesn't stand out as the best choice anymore, unless you've got some extra cash to burn. One crucial thing to highlight is that if you're using a newer Mac with an M chip (Apple Silicon), you get to enjoy Apple Intelligence features. These features are available across all Apple devices, making them a game-changer for those in the Apple ecosystem. For example, I have Apple’s Writing tools on my iPad Air M1, MacBook Pro 14” M1, but not on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. People with an iPhone 15 Pro and newer iPhones!
  • Don’t make the same mistake I did by falling for Grammarly’s overblown hype.

As a non-native English speaker, I initially relied on Grammarly to improve my writing, especially for emails. It worked fine at first, but after their recent so-called “upgrade,” it has become a complete disaster. The suggestions are now awkward, inconsistent, and often outright wrong. Instead of improving my writing, Grammarly started actively ruining it, to the point where I had to turn off the extension entirely just to stop it from making things worse. I made the mistake of paying for their annual subscription upfront—an expensive error I’ll never repeat. I trusted their relentless marketing, believing the premium service would live up to the polished, game-changing tool they advertise. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t. Grammarly still bombards you with its incessant ads plastered all over YouTube. Yes, even as a paying customer, you’re subjected to their smug, overhyped sales pitches. The ads promise a revolutionary product that will transform your writing, but what they deliver is a glitchy, subpar tool that feels like a scam. Grammarly is not only overpriced and underperforming, but it’s also blatantly dishonest about what it offers. Save yourself the frustration, regret, and money—avoid Grammarly at all costs. If you need a solution, I’d recommend ChatGPT. It’s free, actually useful, and doesn’t flood your life with annoying ads or false promises.

  • As a student

I love Grammarly, or at least I used to. The new addition of the AI features has proved to be nothing but a mess. The constant threat of being sent to the dean's office because of AI generated writing is not something that I wish upon anyone, and unfortunately with the current landscape of AI implementation, that threat has made it difficult to recommend Grammarly to any student who wants to avoid any misunderstandings at school or university. I miss old grammarly and do not enjoy the consant shoving of AI "enhanced" editing that the application advertises. Not only has it become more expensive, but its made it a very difficult to recommend tool
  • Stay away from this defective app!!!

This used to be an outstanding app, but they’ve modified to the point that it’s unusable. I have the premium version, and it’s just terrible. To begin with its AI recommendations are downright incomprehensible. Worse, when editing a document the app completely corrupts the text. And when I tried to correct the problem by following the apps FAQ’s and uninstalling and reinstalling the app the Grammarly app doesn’t respond aftis logging in. Moreover, Grammarly’s support team response is silence. $150 ($140 + tax) down the drain.

  • "Features" ruin function

In the absence of any other spell-checker that does JUST spell-checking, I use Grammarly...and hate it. It continually inserts ads for Premium, misses many misspelled words seemingly at random, and its "advice" for writing style is an insult to any serious writer. Will someone please, in the name of god, sell just a simple, straightforward spell-checker?
