    I think the makers of this app and the business that they’ve built around it really ought to examine their motivations. The discipline encourages carefulness in spending, yet demands $90 to be a part of the community and experience? Shame on you. No monthly option, no 90-day option; you know what you’re doing and you’re becoming the money changers. Jesus would flip your tables, with your “value pricing” of maturity in Christian faith. Change the name of the apostolate promise to the apostate promise. What’s worth $90? It’s a daily checklist and a reading. Recommendation to buyers on the fence; commit to journaling and reading your Bible and spending time in prayer, and save yourself a LOT of money.

    Don’t get me wrong. I am not trying to be mean, but the narrators last year were better. Jamie Baxter, I love you brother, but please don’t read next year. Your voice is way too monotone and somber. I have to mute the app and read the reflection myself. 5 stars without Jamie reading.

    $90 for a 3-month app is way too much. I’m going to continue doing the challenge without the app. I’d happily pay $10/month for three months. I think it should be more transparent up front if this is the case

    For all of those men who know they are weak in faith, this is the place to be! They do an amazing job and focusing your prayers to exactly what you need in life. Not to mention the added videos are great. I recommend this app to every single Christian man! It will bring you out of whatever spiritual funk you’re currently stuck in!

  • Good app, unfair subscription pricing

    Like other reviewers, I am writing to complain that Exodus has removed the monthly subscription option for their app. In response to these other reviews, Exodus wrote something to the effect of: our monthly subscription model didn’t align with our vision for the app because Exodus now provides spiritual exercises throughout the year. My question to the Exodus team is: what percentage of your customer base use the app primarily during Exodus90 or St Michael’s lent? If that number is high, why not use a monthly subscription model which serves those use cases well? It seems like the response of the Exodus team would be that their vision is for people to use the app more frequently than simply during their primary challenges. To that, I would respond with the question: should Exodus men have the freedom to opt out of that vision? Given Exodus’s emphasis on freedom, it seems like their choice to remove the monthly subscription conflicts with one of their core values.

    I love the app and everything it includes. My issue is the fact that it costs ANY money at all. You set up this wonderful app and provide people with a transformative experience, but then sour it by hiding it behind a pay wall. I understand expenses and that you offer some discounts. The issue is that helping people come to God should not come at a financial cost to them. If you’re that strapped for money, make it on a donation basis. You’d obviously lose some revenue but you’re (ostensibly) not doing it for the money; you’re doing it to bring people closer to Christ. This is all to say I really like the app, but money issue really bugs me and makes me feel as if the creator is grifting and tricking Catholic men who are looking for something deeper.

  • Subscription Model Change!!

    Beware that despite what they say on the AppStore, a monthly subscription is not available. I only wanted to do the Exodus 90. After the trial period ended, rather than being able to subscribe on a monthly basis the only option is yearly. Not cool!

  • Great App, Horrible Business Model

    I found the app to be wonderfully executed, with easy access to resources and a good way to track asceticsims. And then I got a text saying that my free trial was halfway over. There was NOTHING saying I was on a trial or how much time I had left. Giving you full access then locking you out is nothing short of extortion. (Before anyone argues, here’s the definition: “the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats.”) When I saw the reply that money is tied to a “spiritual journey,” that’s also a poor excuse… the Poor Claire’s have an arguably deeper “journey” with almost nothing. Please be more upfront with your practices and provide a way to make this less expensive without making us jump through hoops in the Apostalate Program. It’s sad that my fraternity even started by saying “the app isn’t necessary, it’s a cash grab.”

    I’ve done Exodus90 twice and loved it, but that was when the monthly subscription allowed me to choose the times of year that I needed it. Now it’s an expensive $90 yearly commitment, so I’m just going to try it on my own without the app.

    Apparently there is a monthly subscription but it’s not an option any longer, at least not through the app. Logging in, only gives the $90 annual subscription effectively tripling the price if you just want to do Exodus 90
