  • Helped with PTSD until it didn’t

I started using 10% Happier at the recommendation of my psychiatrist 4 years ago. It was transformative and daily meditation has been critical for my coping skills. It’s so disappointing that 10% has started using simplistic quizzes and AI as substitutes for new and engaging content that creates a community feel. Now it’s badly-AI-curated single meditations with a total absence of community. It’s a gutting loss for me and finding a different app that offers what 10% (it should probably be called “1%” at this point given how little is being offered) has been a painful challenge. Why, Dan Harris? Why did you ruin a beautiful thing?

A key tenet of Buddhism is learning to sit with things that are unpleasant and let them go. That is now my experience with this app. Gone is the serendipity of finding a daily meditation that you didn’t know was exactly what you needed. Instead I get an AI curated list of meditations like “dealing with rage” and “a depressed day”. Those are not issues I’m dealing with so if they had come up as generic options for everyone I would have just moved along. But now those are the options chosen FOR ME specifically. I realize it’s just a machine and not a person accusing me of rage issues, but it still is unpleasant. Maybe they’re trying to give me rage issues!! :) It used to be nice to read the weekly wisdom. That is gone. The fact that the developer says it’s available on the website is useless to me when I’m meditating on my phone. It does feel like the whole thing has moved from being something health promoting for people to something designed for data collecting and optimizing corporate profits. I won’t be renewing.
  • Hate the changes

Have to agree with all the reviews since the change with monthly check in that you can’t bypass, no more daily meditation, and lack of new content. This happened a week or two before my subscription renewal. I went ahead with it since I have found the app useful for years and was trying to have faith that things would change or improve. So far they haven’t and I have no information that it will. I’m going to look into canceling/refund.
  • Great but few new guided meditations

I’ve used this since 2020. I like it a lot, as a paid subscriber, and appreciate their new approach having us set goals for meditation. But I really wish they would add some new guided meditations. Especially for sleep. I’ve listened to almost all of them several times and a handful are my regular repeats. I’m sure it’s not easy to get more high quality guided meditations from such experts like Joseph, Sharon, or Sebene, but boy I sure wish my subscription fees could get a little bit more. And I don’t need those super long ones - more 5 to 15 min sleep meditations would be wonderful. I get bored with hearing the same guided sleep meditations over and over and I can’t listen to the long ones without disrupting my partner’s sleep. I also do unguided but for sleep/insomnia, guided is where it’s at for me. I also appreciate their meditation courses and did most of those early in my start with the program. Thx and hope you keep it up and continue to offer subscribers new courses and guided meditations. Some of live in places where we cannot easily access such renowned meditation teachers except via the 10% Happier app!!!

I very much like this app. I would like the ability to organize the individual meditations into more than favorites, E.g. morning, evening, recommend to --- . Yes, I can do this by writing notes, but soooooo much easier if you build it in, we'll, so much easier for the user, not you 😁.
  • The best mindfulness tool at my fingertips

I began regular mindfulness practice early in the Pandemic lockdown thanks to the Ten Percent Happier app. It has enriched my life so much that I have kept using it daily for about 4 years now. Even when I can’t meditate for several days or even months, the flexibility and effectiveness of the app keep me coming back to it. The meditations are powerfully curated and delivered. They are right at my fingertips when I need them the most, all of it from home. It’s inspiring to have so many experienced mindfulness teachers available to me in just one app. The quality of the audio and video is flawless. The variety of key words and themes to search from makes it easy to mix and match meditations based on moods and time constraints. I would have given the app a 5-star review, were it not for the room for improvement regarding disability inclusion in the meditation scripts (language) and in the intention (themes). Finally, only a few meditations are close-captioned. I look forward to seeing most meditations offered with close captioning to include more users with hearing impairment and, potentially, some Deaf users as well.
  • I used to like it

I used to like this app a lot - open it up and it offered a ten-minute meditation for the day. I liked that I didn’t have to choose something, I could just go with the default. After a couple of years it seemed like there weren’t many new meditations though, and now, recent updates have changed the app considerably, where I can’t even get to the meditations until after “checking in” about my goals for the month, and there’s so way to skip that and just go to the meditations. Checking in is a fine thing to offer for people who want that, but why make it mandatory for all users? Anyway, I won’t be renewing my subscription anymore after it runs out next time. $99 a year is a lot when the app doesn’t even function the way I would like it to anymore.

I have practiced yoga for over 40 years & have enjoyed both physical and spiritual (?) benefits. However I was never successful w meditation despite several attempts/courses.. Through the Ten Percent Podcast & D Harris’s great interviews(gold stars😆), I learned of Joseph Goldstein. Using the app, I started again w “The Basics “ guided by JG. Two years later faithfully practicing w/ the continued guidance of some wonderful 10% teachers Thx to All Roberta Greco

In the past 26 months since I started using this app my life has changed so much. One thing I have learned is I have so much to learn about meditation and the Buddhist philosophy. I am excited and so curious every day. And I am much more calm and my family noticed the difference. People at work are curious and have also joined the app. Thank you.
