  • Why has it been two months since this app was updated?

I don’t know too much about this app but I know it’s been two months since it was updated. That’s why I only gave it 3 stars at the moment. Google Maps updates their app just about everyday week. Lately they’ve been updating their app every couple of days. Which is super super quick. Google owns Waze but even Waze doesn’t get updated as often as Google Maps. But it’s only been 2 weeks since Waze was updated which isn’t bad but still it’s not as quick as Google Maps. I would have given this app 4 stars but to get the best maps and navigation out of this app users would have to pay. Google Maps is really good and they are completely free. Waze maps is great for traffic and they are completely free. There are a few good maps apps that are completely free. Some you have to pay for but those are the ones that have less users and sometimes have less accurate information due to having less users. People don’t want to have to pay for maps. They really don’t. Including myself. Thank You for taking the time to read this. I greatly appreciate it.

If you’re a fan of OSM you will love this app. Thank you so much to the developers. I love so many things about this app I can’t list them all but: Different map navigation customizations The tracking plug in Profiles Etc etc
  • Good, mostly reliable, but…

OSM has done a good job over the years. Their offline maps are quite reliable and it’s seriously disappointing they put so many features behind a paywall. It’s really unfortunate because none of these businesses and app teams realize that people are being “subscribed” to death. Give me a one time payment option and you can take my money. Until then, no sale.
  • Poor database programming

Whoever wrote the sql on locations has no idea what they’re doing. You can’t allow code to group physical locations that are geographically separated by 50 miles or more into one label. Hire programmers whose native language is English. Also audit your code!

This thing is the worst most infuriating unintuitive app I’ve ever used. Something as simple as typing in an address and just go is impossible. Type in full address as the app has no clue what I’m talking about. Says it’s 3899 miles away when it’s like 50 miles away. And in the wrong city. App used to be simple. Now you need a 5 million page book to tell you how to use it. Glad I just paid for it and now finding this out.

Open-source, minimal to none user data collection, offline-first design executed well.
  • Cursor navigation problem.

I am using iPhone 16 Pro with IOS 18.4.1. I just upgraded to OSMand 5.0. The tracking behavior works correctly when in the most magnified map view. The navigation cursor stays in the GPS coordinates and the map moves accordingly. Any other magnification level the map stays fixed and the cursor moves through the map in the correct GPS position until it exits the fixed map. This makes the app essentially useless. This same problem occurs also with IOS 18.3.2 on an iPhone 12. I contacted OSM support and they suggest I communicate this way for the developers.
