    I purchased this yesterday and I either am blocked from a number of sites I use or the transfer speed is so slow I can’t conduct any transactions. When I tried to cancel inside the 30 day money back guarantee, I was told I couldn’t because I used Apple Pay. What a rip off. This should be complained to the BBB.

    Although all the security features are great and the setup is easy, everything is slow or buffers from loading websites, basic applications, and YouTube videos. Even if I use the closest server location. My WiFi was extremely fast and continues to be without the vpn. Not sure what is causing the issue through the vpn. This happens on all devices.

    This is actually a good VPN, works well on routers with OpenWRT, iOS, MacOS and Windows. The issue is that it’s 2025, and they still only let you use IPv4 addresses in their ‘Custom DNS’ settings. Custom DNS is important, as it allows you to use Ad and Malware blockers at the DNS level, like NextDNS, AdGuard, ControlD etc. Even smaller VPN companies, like AdGuard VPN, let you enter encrypted DoH, DoT addresses as custom DNS. When I wrote to NordVPN to ask them what the timeline is for incorporating DoH or DoT, they responded that they had no plans to do so, and that I should just enable their own, ‘Threat Protection.’ Except that ‘Threat Protection’ is not even close to offering what AdGuard DNS, ControlD and NextDNS offer in terms of customisable malware and adware blocklists and many other rich features that show you query stats for each individual query. If ‘Threat Protection’ let customers input individual blocklists like the ‘HaGezi Pro ++’, ‘HaGezi TIF’ etc, then NordVPN would have a leg to stand on. Right now they don’t. Those thinking of paying for this VPN - don’t. Consider other services like Mullvad, ControlD etc, that do offer encrypted DNS inputs. Or even the tiny AdGuard VPN (which also includes their free private DNS) which you can get for a great deal on stacksocial for 5 years - and you’ll be able to use an encrypted DNS server. NordVPN says they have no plans to move from IPv4. Well then, customers should have no plans to pay a good amount for a geriatric service that refuses to get with the times. Finally, and this always amuses me - they refuse to incorporate ‘split-tunnelling’ into the app. Split-tunnelling lets you use their VPN and another company’s DNS servers. Their excuse? It’s too hard and not possible on iOS. Really? Because again AdGuard has been able to do that with their VPN and AdGuard App. Maybe NordVPN needs to spend less money on marketing and paying YouTubers, and a little more on hiring competent developers and management. The fact that other small companies can incorporate split-tunnelling into their apps, shows you the incompetency at NordVPN. And us customers don’t need to fund their salaries and lifestyles if they don’t have the knowledge to increase protections for their customers. Finally, do yourselves a favour and check dnscheck dot tools after you enable the VPN. Do you see any of their two servers in there? Avoid at all costs if you intend to get any ad blocking and malware DNS service (and you really should as they offer great protection to your devices from malware).
