Description

VoiceMap tours are like podcasts that move with you, to tell stories about what you’re seeing right now. They're produced by insightful local storytellers, including journalists, filmmakers, novelists, podcasters, and tour guides. Sir Ian McKellen has even created a tour. Why use VoiceMap? • Explore at your own pace instead of being herded along in a group. Start and stop tours whenever you like, to grab a drink or take in the view, then tap Resume to pick up exactly where you left off. • Focus on your surroundings, not the screen. With automatic GPS playback, you can just tap on Start and let VoiceMap guide you. • Avoid expensive roaming fees or fiddly connection issues. After you download a tour, VoiceMap works offline and includes an offline map. • Enjoy tours as many times as you like, both in your destination and with your feet up, at home. Virtual Playback turns every tour into a podcast or audio book. • Extend your attention span with indoor tours that help you make the most of your time at a growing range of museums and art galleries around the world. • With over 1,500 free and paid tours in 70 plus countries, VoiceMap offers huge variety. There are over 100 tours in London alone! Press: “High-quality self-guided walking tours...Narrated by local experts, they provide insight into corners of the city sometimes overlooked by regular guided tours.” Lonely Planet “We may be biased, but could there be anything more helpful than having a journalist in your pocket when touring a new city? How about a historian, a novelist or just a really passionate local? VoiceMap culls city-specific stories from them all and fits them neatly into walking tours.” New York Times User Testimonials: "Perfect for solo travelling on your own schedule! Downloaded for a trip to Europe and will be continuing to use it on my next travels." App Store review, Vialetter “My wife and I really enjoyed exploring Bruges at our own pace with this audio tour, and there were some memorable stories that the narrator shared. Also, the app worked great in relation to the location-based services. We easily followed the map and the audio was triggered in the appropriate spots. In comparison to the packs of people wandering the city with tour guides, this was a much better fit for us.” Viator review, Rick A “Great quality information - interesting and entertaining. The time flew by. And no waffle! This is far better than any other guided tour we found - they are much more expensive and far less informative. And you can do this tour any time, any day, at your own pace, and even do it twice!” Tripadvisor review, Carcassonne 's Medieval Walls: A Self-Guided Tour "Thoroughly recommend. Really enjoyed the tour. Very well done. Packed with information and took me round streets I’d never have thought to walk round. An audio and visual treat. Thank you." Janet, NYC “It was enjoyable to be under no time pressure to freely roam the city of Pisa as we so pleased. Wandering from attraction to attraction. The app is clever, concise and easy to use! Would do again - especially with another person or solo traveler.” GetYourGuide review, Grace L “Great value for money, interesting and very clear and easy to follow! I learnt lots about London I didn't already know and I have lived here over 30 years.” London’s Alternative History Tour, Carmella V. ** Just so you know, GPS runs in the background while you're on a tour. This decreases battery life and it's best to start a tour with your device fully charged.

I’ve now used VoiceMap hosted walking tours in Toulouse, Barcelona, Seville, and the Alhambra in Granada. In every case, they gave me both the richly guided information and the freedom to explore at my own pace. I’m a solo nomad, but now I travel with VoiceMap.
  • Worst UI Ever

DO NOT USE THIS APP. It has the worst UI I’ve ever experienced. It makes you start a tour from only one location, regardless of where you enter. I had to walk half a mile from where I entered the Roman Forum, and was forced to exit the park, only to have to stand in a long line to enter again. And then the app directed me to parts of the site that were closed and would not advance if I didn’t. This app should provide audio from WHEREVER THE PERSON IS, since it has GPS. For 20 Euros, I expected much more. Zero stars.

We try to do an audio walking tour each city we visit , never a disappointment. This gave many wonderful historical facts did a wonderful job displaying so many of the popular sites in Charleston.
  • Terrible, don’t waste time

Terrible. This app won’t let you get off their path. It went around and backtracked several times. But if you tried to go to the next site on your own, it tells you turn around or go back. UGH! They should number the sites and allow you to jump ahead to another number if you desire. For example one of the roads was blocked off by police. The app wouldn’t let us advance to the next “site” until we went down that road only. We went another route but the app wouldn’t advance. It kept telling us to go back. It could be such an easy fix. Number the sites; let listeners choose the number they want to hear about; even if they get there on their own. Ugh!
  • Thankful something like this exists

These are super cool and they are a phenomenal way to explore a city at your own pace. The price per tour is kind of high but I think there is value in what is offered. My only wish is that the tours had more cultural context. The history is there but it feels light on the details about why something mattered and the frame of reference it happened in. Why is this person worth memorizing in a statue?
  • Better than a live guide

I’ve purchased a couple of tours so far, and I’ve enjoyed them more than a live guide. I use the iPhone’s Share Audio feature so my wife can follow along, and we love doing the tours while also being able to stop and shop or grab a snack at will. It’s a trade-off if you like to ask questions though. I liken it to watching a movie in the theater vs. at home.

We’re relatively new to Denver and had out-of-town guests, so decided to try this tour after using this app in a number of European cities. This tour was very interesting and informative and the directions were easy to follow. We now know a lot more about Denver’s history, culture, and significant places in the heart of the city. We’d highly recommend it.

The audio tour was great! It was very easy to use- just hit start and it automatically stops and plays at each stop as you keep walking. It was great to get a meaningful experience at our own pace.

Love the mix of old and new, so many side streets we never would have found without this guide!
