I love it that as a beginner I’m learning the very basics first. If I make errors I can start the lesson again,

The lessons are great. My issues are that I get docked points in the lessons for incorrectly answering questions to rules that haven’t been introduced. This is not conducive to positive learning. I’d appreciate flash card system for words that haven’t been introduced but that I’m getting quizzed on and scored against for not knowing them.
  • I like Duolingo better

3 months now since I’ve been using Babbel. I am NOT a fan of Babble. The learning on Duolingo was so much more fun, I enjoyed coming back daily, now, not so much! And I bought a life subscription, sad🤔
  • Helpful for improving my Spanish!

I took Spanish in high school and this is helpful to brush up with and relearn what I have forgotten. I like it better than Duolingo, but I loved the live classes and really miss them. It was 5 stars and now I give it 3 because I don’t feel I’m learning as much as I was before. I still like that I can listen to podcasts at my level, and use different techniques for review.

  • All they want is your data…

I bought this because it looked like it would be a great way to learn a new language. All the promises. Then when I started working with it, I found out that it’s mostly AI driven (not designed for MY learning but to train the AI model). My daughter teaches language acquisition. She’s not impressed with their model. They want you to agree to let them hold your voice for 10 years when you use it for voice recognition (pronunciation verification). And if you don’t agree to the 10 years, all speaking assistance is voided. So you get no help for that. And it seemed so promising. I’m not here to sell myself.
  • Better than Duolingo, but…

Not enough to really go deep in the language. I do prefer the grammar explanations to Duolingo’s complete lack of ANY explanations, but I can’t get past a B1 or 2 level here. Might as well get a tutor. I can’t skip levels when they are boringly easy. Why not? There could easily be a test of proficiency that one could take and retake. And where is the AI integration that I keep hearing about?? Can’t interface it directly. Other apps are much better at this. I can’t see getting near fluent with this app.
  • Be careful with the trial

Babbel will charge you for a year subscription after the free trial and you can’t change it or get a refund if you used Apple Pay):
  • I want to love this, but ..huh

I took Italian in high school and been trying to get back to it with up, but it’s nothing like having conversations with people. It’s OK if you like to build up your vocabulary but I don’t think you get to conversational skills with it. I paid for the App for two years and …. Just my opinion 😕
  • Weird phrases and not much repition

This app has you learn basic things like colors and numbers by memorizing complex phrases that often don’t make any sense for the word This might work for some people but I couldn’t learn anything and unfortunately can’t get a refund for my yearly subscription now. Try something else first
