After completing another language course I was looking it for something to keep myself current/brush up on the basics. I had tried Babbel before, years ago, and wasn’t impressed but I figured that they had changed. It’s still bone dry and boring, but it does a decent job of teaching you the basics. Problem is, the placement exam doesn’t place you any further than some of the earliest courses, because they want to keep you around and paying. And then even after I played along and finished the medium basic courses they told me to start at, they said “Congratulations! Now go aaaalllll the way back to the very beginning of day one Spanish. The ones BEFORE the placement test misplaced you at. You have to learn to say hello and goodbye, and spend weeks finishing all of those day one lessons from the beginning, too.” Yeah, no thanks. They got a couple of bucks out of me, but they’re not getting anymore. PS - I constantly had to close the app and reopen it to be able to progress to the next lesson. Otherwise it would just keep making me repeat the same one over and over again.

Now this thing won’t stick to one word, it keeps me confused by using words I’ve never heard of for thing I’m still learning what they are in Mexican, not European versions!I did go on the app yesterday only a few minutes but it did say I got a new day! This makes me not want to bother with it anymore

So when I try to speak into the microphone, it registers it as ❌ when I speak the right words

Doesn’t have many languages and doesn’t even have the language I want to learn, I don’t recommend if you’re trying to learn a language that is in the more Asian side 😡
  • Confusing at best

Not sure how this app is structured. I completed all the beginner lessons and won’t let me go to the intermediate levels. Now it wants me to do “newcomer lessons”, starting from the very beginning. It doesn’t give me any feedback about why it’s sending me to newcomer lessons and it won’t let me advance levels. I tried the help section but the chat bot is useless. Good thing I only paid for 3 months, I guess.
