  • EATS YOUR BATTERY

I love the app and use it often as a safety backup for nighttime boating on my iOS devices. However, the power consumption exceeds my on board charger capability! Absolutely crushes my battery FAST. I can run a vehicle navigation for turn by turn directions for multiple hours on end no problem on battery power alone, but a 1.5 hour boat trip leaves my phone dead. Garmin, please look in to this.
  • Stops updating while underway

I really like this navigation App for the dock to dock routing and ETA using my IPhone in addition to my MFD. Unfortunately, it stops updating randomly after a few minutes which isn’t always obvious (not what you need when you’re underway and in unfamiliar waters with a lot of boat traffic. I reported this problem last year and figured they would have fixed it by now since it is a serious issue. Unfortunately not. I upgraded my iphone from a SE3 to a new 16e but have the same problem with no difference. It’s hard to believe that a $50 annual subscription doesn’t buy better software support from a major company such as Garmin. In 2026, the problem still has not been resolved. I have determined that the problem is with a SW graphing routine getting hung. Evidence of this is that the program doesn’t hang on IOS if it is running in the background. If it is running in the foreground, it will randomly hang during map graphing update. Garmin says it is a problem with Apple GPS not registering a change due to slow velocity (6 kts is not slow). I can see how this could be a lawsuit against Garmin since they have not resolved a serious problem that could cause a boat navigation disaster. For $50/yr, I expect that this serious problem working with IOS would be resolved. Good thing Garmin has plenty of money for a future lawsuit.
  • Dangerously unreliable

We have been using this app for over 3 years and it in general has worked well. But in the last 6 months or so the app randomly stops updating our position or freezes altogether. This can happen at the worst possible time - navigating a tricky inlet or shallow anchorage, etc. Restarting the app usually but not always restores normal operation. Fortunately we have a chartplotter and Aquamap as alternatives but not being able to rely on accurate position data makes Navionics Boating a danger to safe navigation. I am not the only one with this problem. YouTubers Sailing Magic Carpet recently reported the same exact issue that we have observed. The overall quality of Navionics map data is good but the quality of the app itself is unacceptable.
  • Laguna Madre approval

I can’t believe this app doesn’t have higher ratings. I use it to navigate around the Upper Laguna Madre and it hasn’t failed me. I have personal areas marked for “no go” spots and it gets me through the Narrow cuts that I need for my boats draft. 5⭐️

I would rate this as a 5 star but…. I’m having trouble with my subscription and can not read anything on this which is so frustrating for me!!! I renewed it many times and this time it’s not working out for me at all!!!!
  • Poor quality app

Very poor quality map, only half loads. Will have large areas that don’t load and remain brown squares with no details. Not worth the subscription

Not worth the subscription price of !!!!!$50!!!!! Do better greedy goblins.
  • Ruined by Garmin

Navionics suddenly took away the feature of switching between more than two devices. It used to allow switching to a third device if you booted off one of the first two. Now you are stuck with the first two only. If I’m out to sea and my device battery runs down or if my cellphone dies or loses service, my life is in danger.
  • Got way too expensive

This was a decent app when it was more reasonably priced. $50/year feels very steep. Would not recommend.

This app does not work. Does not show my location on the map. Shows my arrow jumping all over the map. Got ripped off 50$ on this app.
