The remote operation is so bad. Constantly disconnecting and needing an app restart to reconnect. Message to the developer: please make the pop-up saying “Full remote unavailable…” go away. I have to dismiss it constantly and it’s driving me crazy.

Yeah, the Google Home is great and all but when you have a device and your Wi-Fi changes, you can’t go through the app to change the Wi-Fi that it’s connected to you have to either delete the app sign out re-sign in or delete the device from your account and reset it up because there’s not an option to change Wi-Fi it’s such a simple thing that could’ve been added into the app but instead you just want to make it harder and have to go through the 10 step 19 step 20 step backward program to get anything done. Google has been the most annoying program for Gmail photos and anything else made by Google to use because of the way You have to access anything can’t even log into an old Gmail account because my numbers changed and there’s no other way to recover it like so now I just have a forever Gmail account I can’t sign into do better Google

Put everything else aside, the iOS app does not save my custom DNS settings. So I have to enter it everytime I need to switch between "Automatic" and "Custom"!!! 2015, 5 years after i have it : even worse!!!

I bought a brand new Sony Bravia TV, get the plastic off, pumped to try it out I begin the setup of this Google TV OS bad boy and it’s going great. It prompts me to add the TV to the Google Home app to finish the setup, wifi and all, from there I download the Google Home app and after tapping through ads for random AI garbage I on the empty home page. After scouring for the add device button I tap through to be presented with 3 options, Scan QR code, Search for device, Link apps or services. The 2nd is impossible, the TV isn’t on the network and is itself telling me to use Google Home to get it signed on. The 3rd is irrelevant. It must be the first and there is a QR code on the Sony TV, so I pick Scan QR code. And nothing happens. Every time I try to scan the code it tells me it’s “not the code I’m looking for”. I spend the next 20 minutes reading documentation and searching for youtube videos to try and figure out how to do this. I ultimately gave up and finished the setup using the TV remote. Oh sure I was able it to the app after I get it on the network but I didn’t care anymore, the whole reason I wanted the app - not having to type in credentials during setup, had passed My Sony Bravia has since been detected on the wifi and added to the Home app but I don’t want to use an app that doesn’t even having a working setup flow. How good can the rest of it be?

Google switches to less or even completely removes included features on devices such as doorbell, mesh router, and thermostat, treating them like short-lifed disposables even though theyre still perfectly working. We are strongly considering to move to another system.

I love my automations of my smart home. My only complaint is connection with the bulb apps. This would not need any maintenance if the different smart home products would work together for seamless connections. But no I have to “add devices” couple times a week just to get the to talk to each other.

This app was once impeccable. A recent update in 2025 has my once lovely smart home turned on its side. Google home is having extreme difficulty connecting with the various devices. Forcing me to go into individual apps to control devices this making the one stop shop of Google home a hurdle of frustration. I hope Google can pull things back to where they were. Otherwise I’ll be considering going with a different platform very soon.
