  • Barcode scanner not great

So far I’ve had the app 10 minutes and gone through 2 shelves of books. It’s not able to scan about half. Books like Tartine, and How to Cook Everything, not obscure cookbooks at all.

I really enjoy this app. I don’t find myself using it long term due to the lack of qty not displaying on the ingredients required for the recipe. If I am at a farmers market and see ready to eat peaches, I would like to know how much to buy to make a recipe that I have in a book at home. Unfortunately I would have to leave and come back to buy or guess the qty. Please update! This will be a game changer!
  • Disappointing release

I waited so long for eat your books to release an app and was thrilled when they finally announced the release. I wanted to be able to easily leave recipe comments & upload photos. I was hoping it would encourage other users to leave their comments & photos as well, as that is where so much of the value of my subscription lies. Unfortunately this app doesn’t allow photo uploads for recipes. I still need to upload those from the website.

Have you’ve ever bough a specific ingredient for a single recipe and now wonder what the heck to do with the rest of it? This app if for you! I no longer feel guilty about buying pomegranate molasses, kaffir lime leaves, or harissa paste. I have a major cookbook problem and CookShelf has made my addiction manageable. I love that I can search across all of my books for a single ingredient and see reviews of recipes from other cooks. It’s helped me rediscover lost loves and find new ones.

I’ve been using Eat Your Books for years to search my cookbooks but the website is very slow and you have to log in every time you use it. This app gives me the same information but is much faster.

Love the handy digital access to my favorite cookbooks - and the reverse search where I can find recipes that match the contents of my fridge!

So easy to add your cookbooks by scanning the bar codes and whenever you want to make something but can’t remember what recipes are where you just list an ingredient you have and search all your cookbooks to find recipes. It’s so handy; I love it!

Since I started collecting cookbooks I have loved the idea of EYB & maintained a free membership. I knew I wouldn’t use a website enough to justify a payed membership. Apps are just my go to way of doing things now. I was anxiously awaiting this app that I heard they were working on. I am happy to say that after just a few days of using the free trial I know that I will be happy to pay for a membership. I know with this app I will be able to utilize my cookbook collection so much better. My only criticism of the system in general is I wish there was a way to eliminate multiple entries of the same book existing in the database. That way all comments & reviews on that particular book could be under one book & not spread across multiple entries.

It helps me use my treasure trove of cookbooks instead of scrolling through dubious recipe blogs, dodging popup ads!
