This is a fully-fledged Katamari game. It has all the hallmarks of the series, the incredible music, the charming humor, the small dense levels full of visual gags. That's the problem, really. Katamari games game are designed from the ground up to be played with a controller. They have come up with four different control schemes in an attempt to make it work on a touch screen, and none of them work amazingly well. The best ones for me are the twin stick ones, but I keep feeling frustrated by them. Having to control the Katamari using tiny virtual joysticks with no tactile feedback means I constantly end up moving at an angle slightly different to the one I wanted or grabbing the stick halfway into its zone instead of dead center, so when I drag the stick all the one in one direction, the camera moves slowly. It's just so frustrating. I have these tiny joysticks I have to keep my thumbs on. I can't look at them because I have to keep my eye on the game, and they obviously feel exactly like every other part of the touchscreen, so I have no sensory feedback whatsoever that can help me keep my thumbs on them. When my thumbs do inevitably slide off them, nothing happens immediately, because the game is perfectly capable of tracking my touch no matter where on the touch screen it is. However when my touch briefly slides off the screen and onto the panel above or below the screen, the stick snaps back to neutral. Because this is a momentum-based game, I don't notice that my inputs are no longer registering until my katamari slows to a halt, at which point I have to look at the sticks to see which one is the problem, put my thumb back on it, and get my momentum going again. Meanwhile these tiny sticks are surrounded by vast swathes of touch screen that do NOTHING. These areas of the screen are absolutely capable of taking input, and I know this because they LITERALLY DO as long as I touch the sticks first. I just don't understand why it was deemed necessary for most of the phone's touchscreen to be converted into a giant dead-zone! Why can't the entire left side of the screen act as the left joystick, and the entire right side of the screen act as the right joystick? That's literally already how it works as long as you touch the sticks first! Just get rid of the sticks and make it work like that all the time! Neutral can be whichever spot on the screen I touch! There is a control mode that uses the entire screen, but it involves sliding in the direction you want the katamari to go and is just impossible to use with any precision. You might as well be playing with voice commands. It's a good game, certainly worth playing. However it lacks the responsive controls that made the previous games a joy to play. I don't find myself motivated to try each level over and over chasing that perfect score. Doing so is actually really aggravating as attempt after attempt is ruined by bouts of your katamari completely stalling out while you try to figure out why your controls aren't working. Just play it once and move on.

In YWBTK5 and IFRK15, objects won’t load properly until you get close, it it horrendous that the draw distance is broken. Please fox this!

I love this game, I truly do Katamari has been a part of my life since the first game. This is fun and nostalgic that being said there’s a level where you need at least 450k followers, all the cousins, excluding the candy shop collected. I have all of the cousins and I have about 1 million followers. I have every level completed, but I cannot access this hidden level. It just keeps giving me the requirements. I’ve reached out to Reddit YouTube. No one can explain to me why so I hope to support and whoever is reading this can get back to me.
  • AMAZING but IMO, using a controller is not optional!

Use a controller and you’ll love this game. If you’ve played other Katamari games you will be thrilled with the game play, number of levels, variety in new and old stuff, and so many references and Easter eggs from old games.
  • Good but…

I have been a lifelong fan of the Katamari series, and after the extremely long time without a new original installment, I thought Katamari (other than the occasional remaster and insubstantial mobile installment) was pretty much over. But suddenly, this came out, and it blew my mind. It’s a fully featured Katamari game, that has received multiple updates with new content since its release, which is amazing. Can’t recommend it enough and I really hope there is more high quality content like this to come from the Katamari series.
