This is the way to learn a language , hear them speak it. You speak it back. Try to remember it over and over.. just the pay structure of this app I’m not completely understanding. I wish I could just buy it out right and that be it.

This app is great for vocabulary, I’ve used to for learning Spanish and Japanese. It uses short video clips of native speakers saying the words and phrases so you can hear how to pronounce things properly.

It would be great to learn Choctaw with this app. Especially since American schools removed my family’s history from school. And my relatives that spoke chata have passed away. I want to teach my children our native language please.

Σας προτείνω Easy Dialogues in Modern Greek ης Maria Karra. Και, ναι, Memrise έιναι πολύ καλύτερα από Duolingo.
  • It's a fun and exciting way to learn languages.

I took two years of French (I'm in high school) and had to transition to a new school that didn't have a French course, so I decided to get on this to get better at speaking French. And honestly? It's super fun, I also love that this app is free to use and that you aren't blocked by a paywall. Nicely done ☺️
  • Good but has some flaws

I was really enjoying learning Japanese for a few weeks but then the videos disappeared from the lessons (I can still watch videos but they are in a separate tab). Also it's way too easy to cheat with the magic wand, and kanji gets introduced with no explanation of what each character means or how to pronounce it and the lessons expect me to memorize it too quickly. I do a lesson a day and I still can't remember what some kanji are. I've been studying Japanese off and on for a many years and the only kanji I know in this app are the ones I've learned on other apps or in IRL classes I've taken. Sadly, I have to move on to another learning app now. If the app won't teach, I can't learn.
  • Huge potential, some courses better than others

I’ve been using Memrise on and off for years. Some courses (French, Japanese) are great and really high-quality. The human brain remembers language MUCH better when you’re watching people speak, which is why Memrise’s format really dunks on Duolingo. I started learning Dutch this year and noticed that that course seemed like it was filmed during covid or had a lower production value, most of the clips were of the same couple people alone in dark rooms 😅 Just not as visually stimulating as the other courses. Additionally, the new AI feature feels like a messy afterthought; the prompt is usually way beyond the learner’s level and expects you to know material that wasn’t covered in the other sections, so that’s kind of frustrating.
