Like that it specifically offers European Portuguese but I have used other apps that are friendlier to use.

I think it would be best if they had more forms of practice without having to pay

Love the app just started French . My wife is Haitian and I’m working toward becoming fluent in French and Creole so I can speak to her and her family in one of the 2. I am kind of bummed Creole is not on here will you guys be working to add it to the list? And if not hopefully now you will that would be great

There’s a splash screen about courses being moved to a website that is impossible to continue from. The app is locked and won’t function. Useless garbage.

The app is an ok app for learning, I like the use of native speakers in the app instead of some robotic one other apps use. I also like how it seems to use more colloquial language.

It gave me a pop up that some of my community courses had moved off app. Which is fine. But when I go to hit continue it doesn’t move past the page. So the app is effectively useless to me now.

I just logged back in and I can’t get past the initial screen that says some courses have moved. Hitting Continue does nothing

I have decided to learn Spanish. I have used Duolingo in the past for French, which I liked at first. I slowly stopped using it because I wasn’t really learning anything. It looks fun, like a game, but nothing stuck. I’ve been using Memrise for one day and like it so much more. I already purchased the lifetime membership. Granted that it was heavily discounted because the new years promotion (70% off). The way the lessons work is much more valuable. They include a 1 second video of a person saying the word/phrase, and you select what it means, or type it out. They use various actors, which is great because you can hear different pronunciations. Each lesson uses repetition to help the words/phrases stick. So far, it is working for me. With Duolingo, I would see a word or phrase and immediately forget it. I also hated the fact that you got five tries and would be locked out. It just made me hate the brand more than anything. It didn’t want to make me give them money. Lastly, the design is better. It’s fun, but also serious enough to not be distracting. Duolingo is designed for a five year old and celebrates dumb “milestones.” It made me feel like a child, not in a good way. TLDR: I think to learn a language you have to HEAR the words and retain information. Memrise does this super successfully.
