I really wanted this to work for live performance, as I am currently using Logic, and looking for options that can play back tightly synchronized video, and automatically sync to the tempo of the audio tracks, and play synchronized MIDI backing tracks (both notes and controllers), and easily rearrange the set of songs, even minutes before a gig, knowing that tempo sync and lighting will follow. MainStage seems more like a way to play Logic plugins live, along with some additional audio. While there are some hacks for "sending" a MIDI file and using AppleScript to play videos externally, they don't work well. Logic still doesn't even have a method for exporting a MIDI region as a MIDI file with a starting time of 0 / Bar 1, Beat 1, so that also complicates things. Exporting song 15 in my current Logic set has MIDI data starting at bar 2181, with over an hour of silence before any data! So you have to move each region to Bar 1, Beat 1 before exporting. Bummer, I really wanted this to work! And with Apple's existing resources, it seems pretty simple to play back synchronized video, audio, and MIDI from a playlist.

This app has not been updated in quite a long time and is missing the new studio instruments found in Logic Pro. Please add them.
  • Multi tempo backing tracks not supported…

Shockingly for a performance software, that supports virtual instruments and backing tracks, MainStage 3.6.6 does not support more than one tempo. Not sure what kind of music only has one tempo (well, I do know, but I’m not interested in that music). It seems to me that this is the primary purpose for MainStage.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I wish MainStage would be updated to be able to use some of the new logic features such as the new Studio Piano VST

I have been using MainStage for a while. First, on my 2013 Macbook Pro back in May 2023. It did good. I got a little nevous because my mac was a little old. However, no problems. Since I purchased a new Macbook Pro, it has performed great, with no problem. I use MainStage for Church events. there are no down times between songs, and I use a lot of different sounds. I love this program. Thank you Apple. Job well done.

So riddled with bugs. Can't open nested menus as they disappear as you mouse over onto them. Can't quit without saving as the elete option does nothing. I have no idea what the functionality of this is as I threw up my hands after 5 minutes of trying to get basic UX to work. I'm guessing its basically abandonware.
  • The most useless App ever created

What in the actual joke is this App? It is literally just a more obnoxious blown up version of a track in Logic Pro. Unless you are literally a monkey in a literal zoo, this app is poo pooo poooo.
