  • Crashing Continuously

Searching for another DAW now, always loved logic but it looks like I just lost a fully fleshed out song because Logic has been crashing for the last 3 months- used to be able to recover by opening a blank project then opening the other but that’s no longer working. Beware.

If you have intel, DON’T update. It takes me 10-15 minutes each time to open my projects as it crashes each time at startup. I tried contacting Apple and they are no help

If you are serious about making music or audio engineering let me give you a tip. Don’t spend your time trying to learn Logic or Reaper or even FL studio because im telling you. In all professional studios Pro Tools is the DAW of choice for a reason. Abelton Live is one of the only ones that actually competes but honestly you only want to use that for production like beats and electronic music and you still want to export that into pro tools for engineering because Pro Tools is king when it comes to recording, mixing and Mastering. I could go on for days explaining why but honestly don’t waste a whole bunch of time learning these other DAWs because it will only screw you in the end when you step into a professional setting and don’t know anything about Pro Tools. All this other stuff is for the birds.

I am a professional composer and sound engineer primarily working with orchestral performers. While I do work with electronics from time to time, I mostly record acoustic instruments (brass, strings, reeds, percussion, etc). Weather I’m using one mic or several, or mixing a pre-recorded multitrack with 30+ inputs, this DAW does it all. It has fantastic midi functionality, amazing built-in (included) plugins, and infinite control. Not to mention, it’s a one-time purchase at 1/2 the price of Cubase (my other go-to DAW), I’d highly recommend Logic as the primary DAW for anyone who uses Mac.
  • Fundamentally Unreliable

I have a project with just the builtin piano. Every ~30 minutes or so, the audio will start crackling to the point where it’s unusable — like, with every keypress sound comes out for a second and then crackles to nothingness. It’s terrible, and makes it really hard to use — you’ll be jamming and then have to restart it…

I like Logic Pro but the documentation is cumbersome and difficult to navigate. I wrote users guides for a living and I say this from experience: BE PREPARED to spend countless hours searching for alternative means of information on HOW TO USE LOGIC PRO. Apple’s “user guides” amount to a convoluted labyrinth of over 2500 pages without so much as an index! Apple Support has the cavalier attitude that it’s “not their job to provide instruction or education”. YOU WILL BE ON YOUR OWN when you learn how to use this DAW—be forewarned! After 4 years of experience and countless hours of 3rd-party videos, I still have unanswered questions and Logic “help” and APPLE SUPPORT are my last places to go for info on using Logic Pro.
