  • Not letting me use the features

I’m continually getting an error that says Invalid Function: “processAppStoreReceipt.” Doesn’t matter which trail/area, or that I’ve logged out and back in and redownloaded the app. Simply wonderful when I want to use the app and the maps it provides but I can’t get access to anything.
  • Mostly wonderful, but filters don’t work

The app is very well thought out, with views for maps/elevation/lists and user comments for the various waypoints. That is especially helpful for water flow and condition. Also the offline functionality and toggle for GPS is super at conserving battery life. But the filter buttons in list view don’t work, where the user is supposed to be able filter and only see for example, water sources. There are also numerous tent sites in Shenandoah NP but none are shown in the app; only the official shelters appear. It would be good for users to be able to add waypoints like additional tent sites that other users could benefit from.

Got stuck at the very first step when trying to create an account with a “normalize for key is not defined” error, whatever that means… Hardly inspires confidence
  • Was indispensable for my JMT NOBO

I bought this app on the advice of a friend, as I was thru hiking the JMT NOBO from Cottonwood Pass to Yosemite (239 miles, including the 29 miles from CP to the summit of Mt. Whitney). I really didn’t think I would use this app much, but it became indispensable within the first two days. The JMT module is really detailed and was instrumental in planning my day and water refills. The comments from other hikers were really helpful (do make sure to update the comments whenever you are connected to the internet). I really can’t say enough good things about this app. It was definitely money well spent and it played a big part in my successful completion of the JMT. Highly recommended!
  • Screen locking up / freezing since recent update

Having Lock-ups every time I use the app. It will scroll initially but as soon as I click on ANYTHING it locks. Just started about 5 days ago. I’ve been using this for a few years with no issues. I’m in the middle of a PCT thru-hike!! Yes, I have restarted my phone & the app repeatedly.
  • Buggy

It’s very useful and great when it works but there’s a lot of bugs. Biggest one is the comments disappearing randomly.
  • Got to have it

I can’t imagine hiking the Appalachian Trail without far out. Even in remote areas, it shows you exactly where you are, how far you have to go and what you’ll pass on the way. Yesterday in heavy rain in Vermont we lost the trail because we had to make big detours around puddles. FarOut saved us. Zooming in, we could see where we had to go to get back on trail.
  • Great for older users

This is a wonderful program. It’s great to check on the conditions of shelters and water sources in advance of going out as a section hiker. I use this program religiously even when I haven’t been out on the trail for a significant period of time I can feel confident that I’m getting recent data about conditions. It’s a must.
  • Was it my fault ?

I wasn’t expecting this app to give me so much anxiety at the beginning of its use. I could not get the app to start my journey at Harper’s Ferry. A tutorial on how it is set up probably would have helped. I by no means am the best on the internet but no matter how I tried I would not get it to start at HF or direct me from there north on the AT.
