  • Too good to be true

VSCO used to be my favorite photo sharing app but recently in the past few years and not for sure months EVERYTHING is a paid feature and to top it off they finally got ads. Stupidly enough it’s ads for Instagram which is the app most people are avoiding and why they’re posting on VSCO in the first place. Ads but getting harassed every few min to buy something I think the VSCO glory days are finally over, such a shame.

It’s crazy to see VSCO get so money hungry after years. I have used this app for around 13 years now on and off, just to add some cute filters and whatnot. There were filters you had to pay for but not many tools. I decided to download it and use it again after two years, I saw that you need to pay for nearly every feature, even something as simple as highlights and shadows. It’s so sad to see now, no point in downloading when several apps and your phone can do the same exact thing for free.

Just got a subscription renewal when I’m pretty sure I canceled it after a couple weeks because it wasn’t a very good platform. No way get a refund even though the renewal he just went through.

I’ve been on VSCO for about 6-7ish years and as much as I love the app, it’s not as friendly as it used to be. Certain editing features, filters and capturing modes are behind a paywall now. I get the idea behind a membership, especially with the immense amount of filters offered and for more serious photo artists. However, a part of the apps appeal was the easy access to a wider variety photo editing capabilities as opposed to Adobe or the more expensive options. Having to pay to post videos and boomerangs? That’s also really odd considering that no other app has you pay to post either of those since they are so widespread and basic features on every social media app. Locking basic editing features? Definitely interesting. I still love using the app to gain inspo and save memories though.
  • Recent Update Screwed Up

Recent update screwed up one thing. Where the picture was taken place doesn’t show up.
  • Keeps getting worse with every update.

I don't know how they keep making this worse but they do. Constant pop ups for "account updates". Basically trying to get you to pay a monthly subscription fee. I already pay a yearly fee. The import feature is somehow drastically worse. It keeps the pictures you imported last time. Super confusing. Terrible app. How this has a 4.7 rating I don't know.
  • Do not buy an annual membership

The features are pretty good, but lots of other apps do similar. Do not waste your money on an annual membership if there is any chance you may switch from apple to android or vice versa. The annual membership is not transferable, even if you paid for it just a month before. In addition, you have to wait until the previous membership runs out to get a new annual membership or make a new account. Which, by the way, costs $30 more for Apple then it does on android for the same features. In addition, their support is close to worthless. They seem to only skim messages, not really analyzing the content at all and only use a set of pre-canned phrases to reply. I’ve been a loyal VSCO user for several years, but can’t see myself paying for a membership ever again.

  • Don’t Change

Please don’t ever change the fact there isn’t a way to see a number of followers or likes on a post. VSCO is like the only social media app that doesn’t have people’s follower amount posted and I LOVE THAT! Please don’t change it! Ever! ❤️
  • Terrible policies and UI

I was already frustrated with VSCO when they not only moved most of their filters behind a massive paywall, but also changed their interface so navigation was near-impossible. (I often had to totally close and reopen the app, just to return to pages that most apps would simply have a "Back" button for.) But then VSCO deleted my entire account, and refuses to tell me which post of mine was apparently against the Community Standards. I've had it with this app. If I could give it zero stars, I would. And it's a shame, because it had some cool filters. But if I can no longer access them, for reasons they refuse to disclose: zero stars. And I'll continue to warn others about my experiences.
