  • App Won’t Open on my 16Pro

App Won’t Open on my 16Pro for months, despite routine automatic updates, and having deleted the app from the phone and reinstalled it. Previously, I would’ve given it five stars.
  • App is fine, when it loads, which it rarely does.

Reading the paper in the app is far preferable to on the website where the ads make the experience intolerable. That said, the app experiences a “loading error” at least 80% of the time and kicks me back to the website.
  • Excellent, in terms of content and ease of navigation.

I read the Inquirer and (mainly) the Daily News for Philadelphia sports news. It’s all there, everything from game results to stats to analysis and opinion. When the Phillies or Eagles make a roster change, that’s where I find out about it. Their three primary sports columnists each have their own style and are always enlightening. There are other sites to go to for Philly sports news, including The Athletic and NBC Sports Philadelphia. Neither measures up to the Inquirer/Daily News site.
  • Slow and jumpy

App trying to do way too much, and serving up ads slows down scrolling and reading stories everyday. So frustrating at times I just close out. Too bad since content pretty good. Recently added a new feature - app slows to serve up ads, then freezes and shuts down. Nice.
  • Can’t download new app or upgrade old on older iPads

Will need to cancel my subscription to the inquirer as I can’t update my app on my IPad as it is older. Why monkey with an app and make it so older machines can’t update. My only alternative is cease being a subscriber.
  • The “navbar” needs to go away

This horizontally scrolling menu within a restrictive frame is an objectively bad and inefficient user interface element. This is an Apple UI device that needs to go away. I understand it’s the job of the marketing department to place ads that get your attention but the quality is offensive and the autoplaying videos / gifs are visually painful to have on screen forcing me to hide them or close the article. Over the years, the website has consistently been a better experience than the iPad app. However, the presentation and layout of the articles in this app is objectively superior to the website.
  • Scam newspaper

Will continue to charge you, even after you cancel. No one ever responds, continue to fraudulently charge peoples credit cards. Do not subscribe to these this highly unethical newspaper.
  • Incredibly frustrating UI

Worst app experience ever. There are so many articles I give up on reading because dealing with the app just isn’t worth it. Makes me question my subscription
  • App Articles Get Hijacked by Shady Ad Vendor

    2
    By thejlina
Since the latest update I find the app gets hijacked intermittently by shady full-page scam ad exploits, like “as an iPhone user you may have won” type things. This is the type of thing I expect to see from a low-quality website accessed via an unprotected web browser, not a paid subscription to a local newspaper accessed via their own app. Please improve, as it really makes it seem like your product is not worth paying for if you’re further trying to monetize my attention via business with the type of shady ad services that would allow themselves to host page-hijacking spam instead of legitimate product placement.
  • Interface

Such a bad interface - why are all the articles repeated so many times on the homepage and why do I constantly have to sign in again and again. I rarely need to sign in with my nytimes password. It’s a very very frustrating interface and experience. Especially given that the monthly cost is so high.
