Have not used a GoPro since the Hero4 days. Now that I am really getting back into outdoor sports - Triathlon and Skiing - I wanted to have the ability to capture my activities as well as utilize recordings to improve technique. However, I am finding that utilizing the tools from GoPro are not very intuitive. Also feeling trapped in their ecosystem. Hopefully as I dig around I will find other tools that are more useful and user friendly. Was really hoping that buying one of the newer devices I would find it really simple. Also not impressed in the least that Quik is being retired from MacOS! How could a company remove software from one of the largest operating systems in the world! Purchased 2 Hero 12 Black - was really hoping that we could share an account, but literally no way to figure that out. And getting help online is not of any help either. GoPro should really be more helpful towards users when the reach out for assistance. Hoping I can update this in the future. Right now though I am very unimpressed, would say that I am feeling I should have looked at a different brand altogether. :/

Now subscribe to every useless service that we’ve put in-between you and those pictures/videos of your family!! This app SHOULD NOT EXIST. Buy an SD card reader and never download this waste of memory.

Kinda wish we had more freedom on the editing area, control of fonts, effects etc…
  • Annoying Pop Ups

The app is handy, but closing ads every time you open it is annoying. There are better, more passive, ways to encourage users to upgrade. The pop ups are bad UX.

I was so happy and excited to get this camera and app so that I can purchase a subscription and upload my videos directly to the cloud from my camera. It kept telling me that I don’t have enough space to upload. The subscription says its UNLIMITED CLOUD SPACE but it never worked nor was I able to save money on another camera purchase because of the error saying I didnt purchase a subscription when I did and have a receipt for proof. Other than that, I like the camera and accessories purchased from Amazon.

New GoPro user who just go one for a family trip. We used the GoPro almost daily. Got a lot of accessories to allow capturing of video for hours at end during hikes, swimming in pools/water slides, kayaking, playing in waves/boogie boards. The more I have used the app the more it seems to be “over rated.” First, you must subscribe if you want to export and edited videos, but the automatic editing is super basic in what it detects. The “automatic” video detection will basically detect scenes where the people change, that is all - it may toss in a few randomly selected things but that is a big maybe. It misses all the “action” parts of the videos because it is looking for the people, so when they are moving around it doesn’t find them. So you end up hand editing longer videos (so why pay for the subscription?). I am using the app on an iPhone 16 pro max running the latest iOS versions (my automatic update is enabled) so the issues are with the GoPro app. The app randomly crashes or freezes when editing videos longer than 15-20 minutes. Requiring a user to “recover” the video which takes a loooong time. Another issue, they are discontinuing the desktop apps to focus on the mobile versions which is fine if the mobile versions had good features, but they do not seem to be getting any new updates with much more than “bug fixes/stability/speed improvements/etc” My major gripe/pev is that if you have telemetry on your GoPro then you can add stickers with fairly nice information like location, elevation, speed, direction, etc. BUT to use that video in an edit you MUST export it to your phone (ie out of the GoPro app) then bring it back in. Basically doubling the amount of storage needed and requiring you to wait for the export (4K 30-35min video takes 20+ minutes to export at full resolution an iPhone 16 pro max). This means that 2-3 hours of exporting a video on the latest iPhone available (plus additional editing/saving) to create a 3-5 min edited version because GoPro doesn’t let you add stickers to edits. Again, what am I getting from the subscription. Yes, they offer “unlimited” video storage and replacement service (plus a fee which is $99, so you are out $150 minimum for a $300-400 item). GoPro needs to add more features and rapidly improve the current app.
  • Editing and uploading difficulties

I have a GoPro 13 and am having trouble uploading videos while connecting to GoPro. Also, editing the videos to add music will lessen the time. Original film was 2 minutes but at edit, it is only 30 seconds. Can someone teach me about the process?
  • App closes mid edit too frequently

I lost my edit because the app frequently freezes and crashes.
