  • App needs work

The latest changes altered the font to a smaller size and you can’t change the font. What’s worse is the writing at the chronicle is shallow and frequently incomplete.

Mostly DNC propaganda - take for the small bit of local reporting written by interns

Being from Houston, the Chronicle gives me a piece of home.
  • Sad excuse for a newspaper, worse excuse for an app!

Longtime subscriber. Can’t view current edition if you don’t give permission for Hearst to use your personal data. Not mine.
  • Far too liberal.

Today the articles started to load as web pages, with no way to adjust text size. If you’re 25, this is fine. If you need glasses, you’re not going to be able to read it. The comic issue I noted below - over six months ago - persists. The subscription is $10/month, and not worth that. Certainly not more. There are between 1-3 fresh stories in each of the news and editorial sections each day - but frequently zero. There is almost zero national or world news. Future president convicted of a felony? Large portions of Los Angeles burning? You might never know. The sports page seems to get updated, as does the Style section. I'm not interested in either of those, I'm here for the news. I will say that Chris Tomlinson is excellent and a large part of the reason I subscribe. The comics section will frequently go 5-10 days or more without updating. Today's comic section shows that it was updated this morning, but the most recent comic I can see is 8 days old. Since the app only loads the last seven days when it works, they're just lost to me. With all of that, I am usually done reading the entire Chronicle (excluding Sports and Style but including the Comics) in 7-10 minutes. Since I haven't had fresh comics for the past week, I've been done in 3-5 minutes. But wait - there's more! Every time you open the app you'll be asked to sign in to your account to get access to the e-edition and more! No thank you. I'm using an app and paying through Apple so I don't need an account. That's the point. Stop bothering me Every. Dang. Day. So, I'll give it a "meh." Worth it to support local news but it's certainly not a great experience.

Despite complaining to chronicle support the e-edition will still not open on my iPhone 14!

  • Digital doesn’t work well…

I’ve had an account with the Houston Chronicle for many years. About five years ago I went digital only. I continue to have problems trying to open an article to read. It continues to tell me that I need to subscribe or sign in. When I sign in, I get the message that I need to subscribe or sign in. It is totally frustrating. Every now and then I can get to the site to actually read the chronicle. I am actually considering canceling my subscription because it’s useless. If I can’t get to read the articles even in the emails that I have selected to download, I have a problem, opening it up and get the same message over and over, please subscribe or sign in.
