  • August update is disappointing

The print edition loads as one big image. I know it's cheaper but I interacted with the print edition because (wait for it) it resembled the actual newspaper. Not anymore.
  • Worst news app ever

How many years will KC Star and its parent company make it impossible to find columns by its sports columnists in their app? Those writers are the main reason anyone still subscribes to the Star or any local paper, and KC Star makes it impossible to find their work.
  • New App - Crappy as usual

$55 / year for poor function! The new app is clunky. It takes several taps on any button or link to get them to work. There are whole sections for videos, but none of them play!
  • Impossible to cancel.

It’s one of those places where they turn the payment method into a stressful charade. I got an email notification of my payment, but there is no evidence of it within Apple Pay or the App Store or even on The Kansas City Star website. On their website, I’m unable to change my password or billing info, and when I go to cancel my subscription, I am immediately prompted to provide information for it to find my account which I am already logged into. it’s like an exercise in madness. Shame on them.
  • Forever downloading

If you have a half hour with nothing else to do, you can download the paper. Worthless for normal folks.
  • Can’t read articles even though I have a subscription

When I tap an article to read, I get a message saying thank you for reading, with an opinion to subscribe. I have a subscription. Signing out and back in doesn’t help. Deleting and redownloading the app doesn’t help. I cannot read the articles. That is a real problem with a newspaper app.
  • Bad App managed to get worse

I’m saddened by this app because I think the journalists who work at the Star do a fine job. The previous version of the app was frustrating because if you were reading an article and it referenced a previous Star article, the link would open a browser and ask you to log in, rather than just taking you to the article in the app. Sooooo, when a new version appeared I had hoped it would fix that issue. It did not. The ability to see the actual physical version of the paper was a redeeming factor of the previous version, and now that’s gone. Love the journalism, hate the app.
  • Terrible

Your app and login process is terrible. Despite having a subscription through Apple, when I login, the app treats me like I do not have an account and keeps asking me to subscribe. It has caused me to my subscription lapse and find local news elsewhere.
  • Not happy with the new version

I’m not too happy with the new version of the Kansas City Star. I found the old way was much easier for me to find what I was looking for in the online paper. I also don’t want to download the paper on my phone. I just want to look at it. Sometimes new is not always better. Should have left it alone.
  • Disappointing Upgrade

This week the Star’s (e)edition eliminated the option to browse the print newspaper edition look. My renewal option coming due next week couldn’t have come at a better time. Not for me.
