  • Much Better Now!

I used to find better articles relevant to Central Texas, even Austin, in the S.A. Express-News. Now that they share ownership I have noted a real improvement! Thank you!
  • Enewspaper

This is the most poorly run and managed ENEWSPAPER. Billing issues, access is blocked or frozen, no one answers the customer service line.
  • Once great, takes a full step back.

Lived in Austin 30 years. Started with the delivered paper in 1986. Switched to digital around 2000. The digital really improved over the years. We left Austin in 2017, but I kept the Austin digital edition as no other digital paper was comparable. With the recent sale of the Statesman, the digital edition got a big format change. They threw away half the digital edition and what remained is hardly readable on digital devices. The text does not expand well. The front facing icon stories, just don’t do the job. My guess they could no longer afford to keep up with the previous edition. Sad to see it’s passing. RIP.
  • Poor access

I’ve been a subscriber for over ca. 40 years and the system still doesn’t recognize my email when I try to access a link from your emails. And the bar at top with forward / back arrows has them too close to the arrow to front page / back page, causing frequent front/back jumps — very annoying!
  • E-edition

Opening my e-edition should work from the bottom page tap but I have to press that then press account, then press e-edition under services. Ridiculous
  • This is what happens when you have no choice

The e-edition is significantly inferior to the previous version. There is also a difference between what is in the app versus the e-edition. Also, why no longer any television listings on second page of sports section. Just all around bad.
  • Can,t find my subscription

Every day, I get a message that it cannot find my subscription. I have to quit the app and re-open it several times before it locates my subscription and finally allows me access. REALLY annoying!
  • A bad app got worse

UPDATE 10/25/2025: It just keeps getting worse. This app is absolute and utter garbage. It refuses to load the paper, for some odd reason, on weekends when I’m out and about. I quit, restart, log out, log in, and still nothing. Lifestyle section still does not allow for clicking on a story to have it show up as a readable story. Still have to TRY and enlarge any particular story, and then the zoom won’t get large enough to read. How can an app like this even be allowed in the App Store??? The previous version of the app was bad enough. Logging in was sometimes a problem, stories wouldn’t load properly, some stories would open when tapped but others wouldn’t, and more. Now this version comes along. The view is even smaller now, making it difficult to see what you’re tapping on. And again, some stories load and some don’t. Apparently nothing in the entertainment section can be tapped on to read; you have to expand the screen on the original article to read it. All in all just a bad experience all around.
  • Worst app I try to use

The new rendition of the AAS app is the worst and most unstable of the newspaper apps I use. Given the negative reviews over the past three or four months, and the failure of AAS staff to respond, I think we can assume that this was the death knell of a newspaper we have loved for almost 50 years. If you want better Texas coverage, see Dallas or Houston.

Enjoyed reading about Miss O’Brian publishing an Up & Down the Drag Newspaper. You did not leave a paper today by my door. Cordially, James Gaines
