Coursera also has a free class on Final Cut Pro I found super useful to learn how to use the program.
  • A mostly-great NLE with several massive weak points.

I'm a longtime FCPX user and I still find its workflows to be fast and generally suitable for what I do (concert films, documentary work, miscellaneous "content"). But there are two big weaknesses that I wish Apple would address: - the color management options are very weak. With log workflows now widely available this is disappointing, and I wish we had something closer to Resolve's grading tools. - editing and aligning elements and text is a huge headache. I would like to be able to insert a square into a project that I can resize with simple handles, rather than having to stretch the full frame to transform it. Better alignment snapping and/or literally any built-in guides feature woulud be so simple but so helpful. And generally speaking the text formatting process is clunky and slow. Apple — please up your game on these? I really don't want to jump ship to Premiere!

I absolutely LOVE final cut. Best video editing program I have used. A MUST for my youtube career. Been running my channel “dieselducy” for years and ever since switching from iMovie to Final Cut, my videos have gotten so much better

Why is the text edit box so tiny and can’t be increased in size?

I keep coming back to this program, because I paid a ton for it. But it is always a disappointment and a frustrating experience. Why make it so difficult Apple? Why does the timeline “jump” to a weird view if I open a compound clip and return to the previous project? Why doesn’t it preserve my previous view? Whats all this empty space everywhere? Why doesn’t my mouse scroll wheel scroll anything? Why? This app feels like it wants to be different than everything that came before it, but there is no payoff. There is no carrot on a stick rewarding the user for their effort. Its just different to be different. The catch all “events” is a terrible idea, horrible metaphore. Who works like that? Why would I want to see every project I’ve ever worked on at the same time? Broken UX.
