  • Totally leftist paper

They are focused on supporting Democrat ideals through journalists and editors who are clearly biased. I only get the paper to keep track of what this segment of the population thinks.

Years ago I lived in SF and got hooked on the Chronicle. Then moved to E Bay and still subscribed. Now I live 2 hours away from SF in a retirement community ( being 83 next B-Day) and get my Chronicle fix in my cell on the app. Best newspaper ever! Complete news stories, excellent editorial, good world news coverage, even the comics. Since it’s an app, it goes everywhere with me, even traveling world wide. Before Covid my husband, several family members an I went on a cruise to Northern Europe, Chronicle came with. Then we did the Mediterranean cruise and Chronicle came with me too. Hope Chronicle wins more awards, we’ll deserved in my opinion.

Updated 4/23/25 Suddenly the app no longer provides any control over the font size. I use the digital version just for that purpose. Now it is as hard to read as the print version Working well now. While I am not wild about the new small font size, it is adjustable by zooming with two fingers. Wish the zoom would rewrap the text but it is adequate. Updated 6/14/22 Not only has the reloading of articles not been addressed more and more of their exclusive articles and reports and nearly unreadable with poorly designed interaction in the iPhone and iPad apps. I support the Chronicle and it’s content. But it’s app is in serious need of updating to make it truly readable. Reaching out to customer support only returns a form email thanking me for my feedback - even when showing what I might consider bugs. I wish the app delivered articles half as well as Apple News delivers those same articles. Original Post As a Bay Area resident I am happy to have this version of the newspaper. But it has not really improved in recent years. New look has only decreased font size for front page displays despite my system settings. I sure wish it would not restart whatever article is being viewed if you ever leave the app to do anything else. I have been asking for this feature for at least a couple years. Compared to other newspapers and digital news apps I use this one really needs work to bring into today’s digital world.
  • Lose the pop up ads that block headlines - even for paid subscribers!

These are dire times for metropolitan daily newspapers since there’s not much paper (or classified ad revenue) these days. I’m pretty satisfied with the Chronicle’s app and news coverage, as I feel it’s vitally important — especially recently — to have a strong and independent press, and I want to support our local publications. But the recent popup ads this app shows are annoying and dysfunctional — you open an article and you can’t even read the headlines because there’s a popup ad covering part of it!!! Close that ad and another one appears! And you’re charging me $36/month to push popup ads into my face so I can’t read your paper? Bad, bad choice, Chronicle. Keep it up and I’ll drop the subscription.

Chron really hitting a low point. Filled with far left lunatics pumping insanity in their articles. Wanna read such trash as supporting men in women's sports, enjoy

Without a book reviewer, you are not a major newspaper.

Why do I have to keep putting my password in to read a story?
  • Many articles won’t load

Article not loading comes up again and again, mostly on Datebook articles such as The Four Seasons review and today’s Ask Mick LaSalle
