To learn Russian I use multiple resources, primarily the Teach Yourself Russian textbook, apps, and videos. Of all the apps I use, Busuu is my favorite. I love that I can get help from native speakers and I can help them with English as well. Hearing a native speaker pronounce things makes a big difference. The lessons are also very helpful. They actually break things down and even offer a little bit of cultural background. I can’t recommend it enough! UPDATED REVIEW: Since starting the second unit of Busuu Russian, the quality has significantly dropped. The audio is fuzzy, the lessons are much less detailed, and aside from the user interactions I feel the Busuu has become a much less useful resource for me. Unit 1 offered cultural context and explanations of grammar rules. Duolingo is better than Unit 2.

I think this is a good app to learn different languages because it’s teaches you how to use the words and tells you the alphabet. I’m learning Japanese and I can already say a sentence fluently ! I’m still learning but this is a great app I really recommend if you want to learn other languages!

Similar concept but far Superior in helping you learn the language. Actually helps explain why things are or aren’t right, has well thought out study plan, and is very engaging.

I tried a few other apps before landing in this one. I am leaving for Japan in two months and want to learn the basics and as much as possible in this time. I believe this is the best app for beginners as it doesn’t make you read kanji right away or give you a hard time with recognizing characters. That being said, I would learn and practice your “alphabet’s” elsewhere and use this more for memorizing phrases and grammar. Definitely one of many apps I’m using.
  • Best language learning app by far

I’ve tried at least 8 or 9 language learning apps, including all the big ones. This is hands down the most well-rounded and complete platform. Great vocab, pronunciation analysis, AND native speaker reviewed exercises! And you can also get a McGraw hill certificate which is great!
