  • Declining Audio Experience in Recent Updates

The Washington Post app’s listening feature has declined in quality. Previously, I could listen to articles in full with my phone locked or set aside, but now playback stops after about a minute unless the app remains open and the screen is active. This significantly reduces the convenience of the feature and undermines the user experience. In addition, after finishing one article, the app now consistently auto-plays Carolyn Hax columns instead of rotating through current news articles as it once did. While I value that content, it is not what I expect from the listening feature, and it limits the usefulness of the app. Overall, these changes have made the app less reliable and less enjoyable, particularly for those who rely on the audio feature.

All of a sudden, I have to go through several annoying steps just to access the post that I’ve been paying for for many years.

Too much MAGA influence to be worthwhile any longer
  • Is it possible to give it zero stars?

Highly partisan. Can’t believe anything here.
  • Compromised by corporate ownership

What was inherent from the original takeover is now manifest. Because of interests with the government, the related newspaper must watch its words. And it shows in editorials and headlines. Lots of hard work by reporters gets a careful look so as to not offend the “boss.” Newspapers should probably be owned by independently wealthy families, if there are any.
  • I can’t comment

I have a subscription to the Washington Post, and use this app. I’ve never posted a comment to an article before. I want to post a reply to another person‘s comment. I want to begin by quoting one sentence from that person‘s comment before going onto make my reply. I’m very frustrated from having poked around in this mobile app for quite a while, and not being able to find instructions about how to do this. Not only can I not find any instructions about how to reply to a comment, or how to start a comment or reply to one with a quote from someone else’s comment, I can’t even find basic instructions about how to make a comment. I finally found a link to “Help,” but when I follow the link to the first item under it, which appears to be general information about how to post contacts, it takes me to a screen that only tells me that I need to have verified my email address. I followed the link on that screen and eventually (with several unsuccessful tries) it showed a message that my email was unverified. I followed instructions and responded to the email I was sent, which should have verified my email address. I thought that would allow me to get more thorough instructions from the Help section on how to comment on an article. It didn’t. Again, as before, following that link took me to that half screen of information simply telling me that I needed to make sure my email address was verified. Which I had just done. Why is this so difficult? I know Trump isn’t interested in my comments on anything, so I’m wondering if Mr. Bezos has given instructions to complicate this as a compliance-in-advance way of moving WaPo toward the kind of comments the president wants — either ones that praise him, or none. I would appreciate your assistance in learning how to comment and respond to comments, if it’s still possible to do that. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. 😬

I have subscribed to the WP for many years, both home delivery and digital versions. I have read TWP every day. The new design is awful … cannot find local obits or local movie section. The Metro section has been relegated to follow the Sports section. The entire paper has been dumbed down since Mr. Bezos has purchased the paper. After nearly 50 years of subscribing and reading The Post, I recently canceled my subscription. It’s my understanding The Post has lost quite a number of subscribers. Catherine Graham and Ben Bradley must be rolling over in their graves!

  • App default to open with email browser

I get emails from WP every morning with news articles on my iPad. For whatever reason, I can’t default to open the articles with the app. It defaults to opening with a web browser, and for security reasons, I need to log into the browser every time. Please let the app be one of the defaults so I don’t waste time clicking through the login on the web browser.
