  • Has gone in the garbage.

This program has made it impossible to go forward with family search without having to pay for the smallest detail. Familysearch.com offers the research material for free. Too bad I can’t link my dna to that service cause if I could I would close this account.

Ancestry has a lot of great sources including censuses and newspapers, to research and build your family tree. Also love the AI hints/suggestions. I do prefer to use a laptop/browser to see more when researching though. Also, I’d really like to be able to sort search results on any visible column, especially date.

I am bumping this yet again because I can't give zero stars for something that used to be free but now I'm up to paying $400 a year for. I just got another email saying "hey there's a new dna match to explore!" SAME DAMNED NAME YOU'VE SENT ME FOR LIKE 10 years! I don't know what's worse, the price hikes, the changes in dna telling me I am less and less of who I know I am or the fact that you keep sending me emails with 'new dna matches' only to find the same two names over and over. Seriously, the same...two...names. I know there are hundreds in my dna matches so why these two particular names that are 4th gen matches is beyond me. The price hike of now $99 every four months, a TWENTY DOLLAR INCREASE is absolute highway robbery and telling both my mother and myself that we are less of a percentage of Irish than we happen to know we are, with several grandparents/great grandchildren who were born and bred there then coming over, is ridiculous. While you keep upping another percentage of ethnicity over the irish when I have but one relative from this particular region is insane. If I am to pay so much more, a number I cannot afford at all, at least get the science right! Last time this hapoened, there was a sudden update that changed the numbers back to where they had been. Dont release the "updates" unless they are right with the current technology. Right now I am only paying because of the decades of work I have put into my tree and don't want to lose it. Your increase hase been reported to BBB as unfair practices as the increase was sudden as opposed to gradual and absolutely unfair to your customers.
  • The app has declined

When I started using this app, I was able to find a lot of information and build a great tree. But now, on my newer devices (that have been updated), I experience error messages constantly. It is puzzling. At first, I just thought Ancestry was doing an update. But it is happening a lot - when I search on Ancestry, when I try to update my tree or post something new. I just spent time writing a post on a photo and when I tried to save what I had written, I got an error message. After a few of these, I am no longer motivated to waste my time trying to do research or update my family tree. I don’t know what is broken but I hope they fix it.
  • Improved but a ways to go.

Start a race menu like the app Family Tree to look up specific categories, like race on the app, please. Set up verbal communication with entities that hold our ancestor's information. Last have sales on Ancestry Genealogist services from time to time with a guarantee of at least one result before the time is up.
  • It’s a subscription

They get you to buy the dna kit, then after a couple of months, you have to subscribe to do just about anything else. Hey, everyone gots to make millions!
  • It used to be good

Beyond disappointed in the app. You use to be able to access way more, but since they updated awhile back you no longer have access unless you pay extra. They find a possible relative previously you could add them, now…nope you ah e to pay. DNA used to be more accurate now it’s just generalized.
  • Previous custom groups were removed.

Hey there was reason to removed the old groups. Many of those were put in before you guys started paywalling everything. This a tremendous disservice to your customers.
  • Lost test results … twice!

I had my test done in spring 2024. In Summer, I purchased tests for all family members. This is when troubles started. They removed my test results from the app, and loaded my (adult) daughter’s results into my account instead of mine. I looked in the app, and on website, but no, my results were gone for good. Fine, I ordered another kit when they were on sale. After all, I wanted to compare my test to my daughters. This time they took 3 weeks, updating me from time to time about the process. Shortly after Christmas I receive another text, “your results will be ready tomorrow “. Great. “Tomorrow” I receive one more text, “your sample wasn’t working, we are sending you a new kit”. Umhm. Waiting for a new kit still. Not a happy customer.
