This “publication” is an absolute joke. Aiding in the genocide of innocent civilians in Gaza.
  • Three Irritating Bugs in iPad App. 1. Tapping an article headline often doesn't go to the article!

1️⃣ In The NY Times app on the iPad… When you tap in on an article's headline on the app's main page, it generally doesn't go to the article! Instead, it jumps to another part of that page. This has been going for over a year. People have posted about it, criticized it in reviews, and, yet, it persists. The latest update failed to fix it — again! Is this too much to ask for? Basic functionality? It seems so…. ——————> 2️⃣ Two other irritating bugs. The Wordle analysis is messed up. The “Tap to Advance” arrow-link doesn’t work! Why not? One can tap instead on the next in the series of horizontal lines at the top to see the next part of the feedback — however, that is interrupted each time by a strange, out of place, bolded pop-up message: “Share a link that’s free to read.” Right below that is a bizarre, inapplicable message, “Use a gift article to share this story.” 🙈 What story?! Each click on a new line is interrupted by this same, repeated, irrelevant pop-up message. ————> 3️⃣ This is atrocious software design and clearly not tested. A summer intern or junior software engineer could fix this in a quarter hour. So, why doesn’t the Times hire someone to clean this up?!
  • Less hard news and articles than ever before

I’ve noticed a continued decease in the number of hard news stories. Most specifically in the US section and secondarily in the Business section. It’s common to see the vast majority of the articles in the US section for days and days in a row, with just a few new stories. Same with the Business section.
  • Buggy

This app frequently crashes on my iPad (iPad OS 18.5 which is also a buggy mess), fails to load data with the error message “something went wrong”, or simply fails to load any text and images without bothering with the error message. At this point it’s easier to just use a web browser.
  • Love the Articles

I enjoyed all of the articles that I read about the marriages of people I don’t know, but they were all very, very interesting and I will continue to read them. Also I enjoy the ethicist ethic articles as well and I enjoy the Real Estate ones. I forget what they called, but I love those.

I’m a nyt subscriber picking the app back up after many years neglecting all their apps. This app is designed to be used when connected to the internet. There’s no function to download articles and you have no idea which articles have downloaded before boarding a flight or leaving an area with internet service. I’ll be deleting this and going back to the website.

For most of my over 70 years, I have read the NY times, or its affiliate Boston Globe daily, without ever being misled or misinformed to the best of my awareness. Having them available online is a positive thing for me!!! In many regards. David Kepes San Antonio, Texas
  • Thoroughness and Honesty

The Times continues to be one of the only new sources in the country that we can rely on the thoroughness and honesty of the articles. I have been prescribed since my early days in medical school in the 1980s. It never disappoints.
  • Apple steals from customers and no one cares

I pay to get features on my iPhone, and pay a lot for the iPhone itself. Suddenly, after years of good service, I try to download a new app for the Times and get the message from the Times that I need to upgrade my phone to receive the new product. When I try to upgrade, Apple tellsme that my phone is too old to handle the new system. After some research, I now find that I need to spend about $850 for a phone that will accommodate the new system. I was not told, and did not know that my expensive toy had a built in lifetime, and I would have to continually purchase upgrades for effective use. The same problem has now come up with my kindle. I own two expensive toys that won’t accommodate present day information. It’s a shame that the Times participates in this theft I imagine that the articles I cannot access are excellent, like most I value in the paper, but I cannot access them, hence the single star rating.
