  • Now charging for “free views”

After using this app for nearly 11 years, they have now put a limit on my “free views” per week. As a physician, I use this app daily to check dosing before prescribing. I do this while in the patient room and I need to do it quickly. Why? Because patients do not want to see us googling. Other apps take far too long. It is unacceptable to start charging simply to “view” drug information. The number of various subscriptions required simply to perform basic job duties as a physician is now untenable. I can no longer keep track of the numerous greedy apps I am forced to pay for and manage monthly in order to access information that should be free and widely available. Looking up drug information is by no means a premium feature. This is the app that the vast majority of physicians use for quick reference and to avoid medication errors. We should NOT have to pay $15 per month simply to NOT kill people. LIMITING PHYSICIAN ACCESS TO VITAL DRUG INFO ACTIVELY HARMS PATIENTS. FIX NOW
  • What happened to epocrates?

I've been a loyal Epocrates user since med school, and I've watched them strip out the good stuff and lock it behind "Epocrates +," while the free version gets buried in ads and useless articles. Drug pricing info comes and goes. Formularies have always been a gamble. Then today, I go to search for a drug and get hit with: "You've reached your free views for this week." Of course, the paid version is now a subscription instead of a one-time purchase and given how aggressively everything's been getting paywalled, I'm sure we're not far from an "Epocrates Super +" that demands a second subscription. It's just sad watching a once-great app get systematically gutted from the inside.

When did the free version of Epocrates start limiting the number of views per week?

Been using Epocrates since 2000. It was my go to database for quick lookup of drug information and formularies. Just noticed there is limited weekly views unless upgrade to Epocrates+ versus online version

Used to love this app. For many years I had the paid version and at some point decided to go back to free. Now it’s ads up to wazoo on the free version. Went back to paid version to find there are still ads. Cancelled the subscription. Actively looking for an alternative.

Very limited drug lookup now. I am not sure the exact number of drug information views but I’d say 10 or less per WEEK! This is insane. The ads are prevalent in this app so to limit access this way is disappointing. I preferred this app to UpToDate but since my company provides access to UpToDate, I’ll be deleting this one sadly and using the one that is truly free to me.

This has been a wonderful app. However, I have the free version, and all of a sudden, it is limiting the amount of views I get in a week. I have used the same free version for 5 years with no issues and now I’m incredibly frustrated that I can’t access the content like I used to.

I have had this app on my phone for over 15 years. As a nurse, it is very handy for referencing medications that patients may not know they’re taking. I needed to reference a medication today and the option to subscribe is now keeping anyone without the subscription from using the app! This is such a bummer. I loved having enough of this apps information to do my job and not have to dish out money every month for it. Disappointing to say the least.

Long time user (12+ years) and healthcare provider. Used to be a reliable, quick tool for medication dosing, but recent limits on searches/views make it difficult to use at the point of care. Frequent interruptions and upgrade prompts disrupt workflow and patient care. I understand the need for subscriptions, but restricting basic drug info is a major step back.
