One thing I’ve noticed is that some signs are shown incorrectly in the dictionary. It would also help if there were more context for each sign. For example, does “mean” refer to meaning, or to someone being rude? Does “light” mean actual light, or “you light me up”? Sometimes the information is inaccurate or does not clearly explain the correct use of the word.

I am looking for an easy approach for learning ASL. My friend is deaf and communicates by using ASL. She has taught me to say a handful of words but I am not the quickest learner, so texting has been the way we typically communicate. Her BDAY is coming up and I want to surprise her by showing her my increased ASL vocabulary. I love that the app doesn’t hound me to buy memberships. I like that I can click the turtle icon and the video slows way down. That is really helpful for me, someone who is slow learner. Now here is why I gave it 3 stars: The streak feature needs fixed. I visit this app many times a day but they reset my streak unless I have the time to visit when the apps notification goes off. Im a single mom, I don’t have time to always devote a chunk of time at any certain time of the day. Also, I would love to see more repetition during the lessons. However, the app is a helpful tool for learning how to speak sign language.

ASL Bloom is a really fun way to learn American Sign Language, but you do have to pay for it if you want to get past the first few levels. Despite this, if you’re willing to pay to learn, it is a good investment. Overall I give the app four stars because of the entertaining and effective teaching methods, but not a full five because of the fact that you have to pay.
