I've been a fan of recipe managers for decades, and Umami is one of the best available. It is well worthy of a 5-star rating, but it has one small annoyance that I hope the developer resolves someday. I have to print a lot of recipes, as my wife likes to keep them in 3-ring binders. When you print any recipe in Umami, the color picture that prints with the recipe is huge...enormous, and simply not necessary. A thumbnail would be sufficient. This causes Umami to use at least two pages of paper for each recipe, which is less than ideal. Additionally, there is a lot of wasted white space on the printed recipe, further wasting paper and space when trying to keep a recipe to a single printed page. Please, either make the picture smaller or give users the ability to turn off printing it.

I LOVE this app. It’s obvious thought and skill went into creating this app—the attention to detail and thoughtfulness is evident in every interaction. It’s deceptively simple (exactly what you want in a UI), but powerful and functional. I’ve used a lot of other recipe apps and this one is without a doubt my favorite. If you’re looking for a recipe app, don’t sleep on this one.

I love this recipe app. It is so easy to import new recipes, pictures and directions. I especially love that it saves the url that the recipe came from, in case I need to refer back to the website or tutorial. If only the app could tell me ahead of time, if the new recipes will taste good or not 😂😂😂
  • Very Functional App

I researched recipe apps and settled on Umami and I’m very happy I did. It’s easy to import recipes from various formats. The price is great. It’s easy to share recipes. And I can also export to PDFs as needed.

  • Import didn’t add details

The first recipe I imported was from instagram. It didn’t have the ingredients or directions in the caption and so it showed up blank in the Umami app. When I imported the same recipe into Recime app, it took the ingredients and instructions from the audio of the video and added the text automatically. Needless to say I’ve decided to go with Recime instead, even if it’s a bit more expensive because it just has better features that actually do what I need it to do.
  • Best of the recipe managers available in 2026!

My wife and I researched and tested a bunch of the recipe managers available as of spring 2026, and Umami floated to the top because of: 1. It’s clean and straightforward interface, 2. Ability to work on iOS, web browser for importing it when cooking, etc, and 3. That it’s grocery list can write directly to iOS reminders, where we share our grocery list. Really nice app!
