  • AI generated recipes and pics

    I was very excited about trying this app but was very disappointed. I could immediately tell that a lot of “users” are using AI generated pictures for their recipes. The recipes themselves are probably generated off ChatGBT as well. Nearly all the recipes under “trending recipes” have AI generated pictures… this should be against policy but apparently it’s allowed. I’m sure a lot of these users are just bots too. AI is running rampant and ruining once great sites for finding recipes like Pinterest which is why I was excited to try this app but they are no better. Because Pepper allows the use of AI I will not be using this app.

  • Dietary Tags Unreliable

    There needs to be a consequence for people who use incorrect tags on recipes, or a way the community can correct it with votes or reporting or something. People will select all the tags (dairy free, nut free, etc) to get more views on their recipes and it makes the filters completely useless. Which makes the app useless for people with dietary restrictions who really only want to see recipes they can make. I love the concept of the app and am excited it exists! If they just fix this one thing it will make it 1000% better

    Every time I open it I just get a pink screen that’s says “your social cookbook” can’t do anything from there. I’m paying $40 a year for this??? Really?

    I downloaded this app yesterday. Once it decides it wants to hold you hostage to open a box and see what “free”things you’re gonna get you can’t swipe that screen away to actually do what you intended to do when you open the app. I’ve tried to copy recipes to it and it doesn’t work. It says “oops, something went wrong”. There is no place to just paste a recipe and the toolbar down at the bottom of the screen disappears and you have to constantly close out the app to try to get where you want to navigate it. It is a complete waste of time. Not a helpful tool at all.

    I always read through things before downloading so I don’t get something that will charge me after a trial. Somehow during the process of enrolling I missed the free version of the app & got signed up for a trial version that said it would charge me at the end. I reached out to them & they responded quickly, clearly knew their product by providing detailed questions about how I signed up to make sure I wasn’t being charged, and went in from their end to verify that I wasn’t being charged on the free version. Definitely went above & beyond to be helpful!

    I really like the concept and have been importing recipes from social media. I like the import feature, but notice that it is not always accurate and makes up recipe steps. Like from thin air. It must be the AI. I randomly noticed some ingredients were not listed in the imported recipes or the measurements were wrong. But recently I imported a one pan dish and the video (from FB) didn’t list the recipe or steps. So Pepper made them up and invented an oven step… complete with making up the temperature and length of time to be cooked! None of that was in the recipe. This makes me suspicious of all recipes I’ve imported previously. It works fine for bookmarking my recipes from social media, but I’m not going to trust the ingredients or steps going forward. I was considering buying premium, but I will not after these issues. I tried to contact support to report this bug, but the app doesn’t list the email, instead tries to open my mail app, which didn’t work.

    I accidentally signed up for a year subscription after the free trial and after emailing the app to request a refund one of the owners personally venmoed me a refund since the Apple app would not help me. Very impressed with the work ethic of the owners!

    If you’ve submitted a recipe, you can’t edit it and add a photo. It won’t allow you to delete it and upload again. It also won’t allow you to upload a second time. The idea of the app is great but there are weird quirks that make using the app annoying.
