they claim the app is free. But when I login a subscription screen pops up. You cannot get passes this screen without agreeing to pay. Also, I don’t like the DUPR system. I have played many players with high and low DUPR rating and it isn’t that accurate to me. Thirdly, I don’t like the control they try and exert over the sport of pickleball.

The app is great for checking scores and stuff but way too many ads

Used to be solid, now this app is constantly popping a “purchase subscription” paywall which is sometimes unclosable. I have to close and reopen the app multiple times to get basic information. I hope DUPR is making a lot of money because it’s costing them their integrity.

The DUPR app on the App Store is riddled with bugs and has become nearly unusable for many pickleball players. Users on Reddit have complained that the app constantly crashes, freezes, or bombards them with unskippable ads and DUPR+ subscription pop-ups that block basic features. Some even reported scam-looking ads that mimic login screens or redirect to suspicious websites, raising serious trust concerns. Essential functions like viewing match history or verifying opponents often fail to load, making it frustrating to use for even the simplest tasks. Players also say the rating system is unreliable, with scores jumping erratically or failing to reflect real skill levels. What was supposed to be a helpful tool for tracking pickleball progress has turned into a glitchy, ad-stuffed mess. Until major fixes arrive, the app feels more like a cautionary tale than a companion for serious players.

This used to be the best app for pickleball ratings and still is on desktop but the mobile app experience is absolutely horrible. I bet the organization wants it this broken status because they want money over functionality. We don’t have an alternative right now but people will eventually switch soon enough. DUPR is obviously prioritizing money over customer experience.

DUPR only works because it’s free. We have already had a ton of advertisements in the app, but now they want to make even more money by locking down the mobile app and requiring a subscription just to access it? Dumbest thing I have ever seen. Maybe they should try adding something of value that premium users could use, instead of locking down the basic functionality of the app behind a paywall.

Can’t close out of the up-sell pop up. Someone mentioned the UTR app. I hear that it is already well established for tennis. I think the pickleball community would be wise to move in that direction given the recent DUPR controversy.

Horrific app that tries to force you to pay a sub fee by making the close X button invisible on subscription pages. Use the website.
