Was happy with them but then they started doing in app purchases on top of a monthly fee will be closing my account with them, if I’m going to be charged a monthly fee I will go to another manga app

I’ve been paying for and using Manta for a few years now. The gem system when it first arrived, didn’t bother me because they were new titles that I didn’t necessarily want to read. I was content with the catalogue I had. However, titles I’ve read are now gem only stories which did not make sense to me. I can’t even reread my favorites unless I pay for gems on top of what I’m already paying. I feel as though my catalogue has been limited and there’s not much else out there that captures my eye for subs only. I saw another review about might as well stick with WEBTOON and I agree. At least you pay for everything and have access to everything if you pay for it. No subscription service for partial or full access( granted that could not have always been the case). If Manta is keeping the gems, why not just give us the option to pay more for everything since you already have a sub service? This feels like paying for a gym membership then being told you can’t take classes when you always could before. I really want to stay, but I’m so disappointed. Once the mangas I’m reading wrap up, that’s it for me.

I used to love this app. Paid for the subscription so I could access all the stories - but then they introduced the gem system to charge you even more money on top of the subscription price. makes you wonder what the point of paying for a subscription even is anymore. Even worse, all of the new stories that feel worth reading & that i would be interested in reading always seem to require gems to read. don’t waste your money and just go back to webtoon comics. to the app developers - bring back the old version of the app & get rid of the gem system, no one likes it.

Really love reading here especially cause of the monthly plan that lets you read a lot of the comics without having to pay per chapter except a couple of ones I do have to pay for but it can be somewhat expensive buying gems if you’re reading more than just 1 comic. Luckily I’m good with saving them and only choose the ones I’ll actually read. Wish there were bl novels too but still love the comics either way ^^.

I’ve really been enjoying my time on Manta! The variety of storylines is impressive—there’s always something new and engaging, whether it’s romance, fantasy, or drama. The illustrations are absolutely stunning and bring each story to life beautifully. As a fan and aspiring creator, I’d love the opportunity to contribute my own stories to the platform one day. Manta has truly been an inspiring space to read and dream!

665 gems is $49.99, that will unlock maybe 1.5 total comics. Each episode is running 5 gems each..Not including if it’s still an ongoing series, you’ll have to shell out more for the new episodes. I didn’t mind the old payment model, and I’m ok with paying a little more to artists.. but paying more money on one comic than a meal, a published book, Netflix or a movie ticket for example feels crazy. I hope they’re paying the artists significantly more????? I cannot enjoy this app anymore and I’ve been a subscriber for years.

500 of the titles are gem only and unreasonably inaccessible to people who have been paying a monthly subscription for years.

I pay for the monthly subscription, it’s not expensive at all. But the fact that they added in the gem system is so freaking annoying. I feel like they’re trying to get every little penny from me. Granted the gems aren’t as expensive as I’ve seen some apps. But almost all the stuff I read is now on the gem system. What’s the point of the subscription if you’re just gonna make me pay more anyway?? I wish there was a way to up your monthly subscription to have access to those comics. Developers, please do something about this. It’s really annoying and makes me wanna look at different apps to use instead.

I have enjoyed finding something that has most of my favorites in one location. However, with the changing formats and what needs gems and does not need gems and finding out that what you purchased in your membership keeps changing, is a bit frustrating. Some of my comics that I use to have full access too are now locked. Or were pulled and then brought back and require gems to access them.

I loved this app until they started requiring gems for most comics. I was happy to pay the monthly fee for unlimited reading, but now almost every story they advertise requires an additional purchase of gems to read, which get really really costly. I cancelled my membership and will stick to free apps like Webtoon from now on.
