I’ve been using iOverlander for a few years now and got a pop up on my app to install the new version. The 2nd “improved” version is a JOKE! I have never had a worse experience with an app. The new version is just a way to sell advertisements. In fact it’s even worse than that. I got a white screen that I couldn’t get out of and ended up just deleting the app. Jesus, iOverlander is a great app that’s been ruined. DO NOT INSTALL THIS APP! Let me know when you get this right.

I have used the legacy app for years. This new version does not work at all on a new iPad. The map will not show a single site. The legacy version shows sites and is much easier to use. Addition: Don’t upgrade. The new version of the app takes the database the was built from community input and charges for it! You have to download the data separate from the app itself, not included. And you have to put up with advertising on the app. Find something else or stick with the original version.
  • They ruined the app for profit! ITS EXPENSIVE!

They removed all information on the app unless you PAY $99 annually! $60 annually for PRO with limited features, $10 monthly for no Ads, $6 monthly for PRO with limitations. You can’t see anything now unless you pay which is a bummer as people from all walks of life used this app! Inhumane, thoughtless, harmful, greedy. Use other FREE apps and websites to find free camp and offpath spots. Save spots in your own list. These people have ruined a community that cared to help each other! Learn Stealth camping. YouTube and Google it. Shame on them.
  • OG app way better!

Why fix what isn’t broke? Aside from being able to easily access favorites in the new app and a slightly better “look” the functionality is terrible. Having to download areas, several steps to get where you want, annoying ads, and expensive paywall is not a good 2.0. I’d rather pay for the old app and just add favorites to it. This introduced more problems than it improved. Not a good step!

$100 a year is a small price to pay for access to a vastly improved app with many needed additional features. finally favorite spot saves! How many free wild camping nights at epic spots has iOverlander pointed you to? think about the average CG fees you have saved and how many amazing spots you would never know about. this is a must have app and with the price.
  • V2 is major DOWNGRADE

Original app is useful when looking for the occasional thing on a trip. I fully support new ad model but I often cross multiple states so it now also requires a subscription at $60/year which is really excessive so I’ll just stop using. Please rethink.
  • Don’t upgrade! Keep your original app!

You can’t view different areas (countries) without a subscription now. Huge set back. I traveled the Pan American highway (20 countries using the app). Made the mistake of upgrading before heading to Europe, now I can’t research without paying a fee.
  • Subscriptions are way too expensive

I understand the need to bring in revenue to support the app, however, $99 a year is just too much to obtain essentially the same functionality as the original app + favorites. I think a $99 lifetime and a $4.99 monthly for unlimited would be more reasonable and I would be willing to make a purchase. This app is literally charging almost as much as a Netflix subscription for way less content and for most people relatively infrequent use. The pro subscription seems pointless as it’s still quite restrictive and annoying. Just offer unlimited with more reasonable pricing and it will probably get more than 2 stars.
  • Worst app revision

I can’t login to my old iOverlander account. Password reset request, no emails from them in my inbox. I can register a new account because my email is already in their database. First welcome prompt shows up and you can’t read the text on the buttons. Annual price is pretty steep especially when their target audience is looking to save money for free over night camping spots? I don’t mind the price to support them, but it seems like they’re being a little out of touch with the spirit of dispersed camping…
  • Just sad, especially when reading the developers responses!

Curious where this app would be without all the people actually adding the helpful data. It sure wasn’t the “developer”. Try a lifetime subscription or something more reasonable. Did you forget we are boondockers, overlanders, ect. We are not tourists looking for the next best thing or app. Simple works….keep it that way. Oh, and I read all about why the change and yada, yada, yada….maybe try allowing a few states at a time instead of just one….jeez! Talk about a slap in the face!
