iOverlander(1) is a beautiful, community-built project. A paywall cash-grab is antithetical to the core values of its users.

I’m reluctant to pay $99 per year but iOverlander is in fact a great tool. The app developer needs to keep it from crashing and work in the interface but it’s a good start

why fix something that isn’t broken. stopped using campdeminium after they switched apps and didn’t keep anything the same. decided to give this a shot and am super disappointed and unsatisfied. at least transfer all the information. not able to find anything even in the one state i can download. unfortunate and i would be so sad to see the original app go. so so helpful as beginners on the road BRING BACK IOVERLANDER

What was once a simple, effective little app is now a nightmare of UX blunders, sketchy ads, and paywalled features. Installed and deleted after a few minutes. Total trash.

I off-road all over the US and used the original version all the time to find spots from my fellow overlanders, I upgraded the app and it is junk, pop ups and it is laggy. I am disappointed will stick to other apps going forward, don’t waste your time.

Long story short: They ruined their app, you cannot just use the app with internet (like every other single app) to see any sites or what have you, you have to DOWNLOAD regions which are a limited expense that you have to pay for if you want it not to be excruciatingly annoying. Why force people to take up space on their phones when the older app did it without that perfectly fine lol. Then the developers talk about how old the legacy version is, yet somehow it has negligible differences in filters and infinitely more user friendly features compared to their new one. Took them 10 years to make a technologically inferior app. Finally, the developers refuse to listen to feedback and just defend their terrible design/software choices. Even going as far to excuse the horrid downloads with “they’re ONLY 5-10 mbs total” as if the old app wasn’t ZERO mbs total. Don’t waste your time, use the legacy and if they stop support for it just find a new app.

IOverlander used to be useful , not anymore. Time to find a better camping app.

The first app had its issues, but the primary use for the app wasn’t completely paywalled by a subscription! You can only view ONE state at a time unless you pay their subscription. Absolutely insane. Will continue to use the old one until it’s removed from the App Store then will use AllTrails

So disappointed that the community driven information has turned to a money grab.

After teying to use the app multiple times, it just doesn’t make any sense. I am a software developer myself and the UX on this thing is terrible. Last one was so intuitive, zoom into a place and you get to see what you want. When you download for the first time its literally blank, and then after fiddling around I had to tap download, thats when things showed up, And only for one state? Common. And $6 for subscription? That’s hilariously ridiculous. Good luck making money, I feel like its soon gonna shut down. Because the market you’re targeting is very tiny, for such market donation based community maintained system is best. Also will you pay the contributors? If not then you’re doing a disservice to your customers. Evey content creation platform pays its contributors and you putting a subscription service fee without paying the contributors is outrageous.
