Absolutely 100% recommend. If you want to travel and communicate in the native language, you’ll want to speak like a native. This app gives you that!

I began using Pimsleur to linguistically prepare for my trip to Japan. With 6 months to go, I turned to this app after using Duolingo and LingoPie. When it comes to learning to speak a language, this is your go to language service. Duolingo is great for learning vocabulary, but that’s all I personally gained from it. LingoPie is nothing more than slowing down anime with English and Japanese subtitles on - something you could honestly do with VLC on PC. Pimsleur is a quick way to begin to quickly learn to speak and understand audible Japanese (or any language)! I recommend pairing this with Genki I if Japanese is your goal! 5/5 will definitely continue to use Pimsleur!

This app is helping me progress in just weeks of practice. The format lends itself to learning so much more than some of those other apps.

I absolutely fell in love with this app. I’ve been making good progress up until the eighth lesson. I’m not sure why, but whenever I repeat the prompt or I say it perfectly and flawlessly, the app does not seem to recognize what I’m saying. I’ve gotten to a point where I am mimicking the male prompt down to his tone, and even that is not good enough. Please look into this. It’s very frustrating. I’ve perfected every course prior.
  • Best app to learn a language

I used this to learn German up to level 4, and am currently on Korean 2. It’s actually insane how quickly you learn from 0 to some. There’s definitely some cons to the speaking-first approach, namely that you don’t read, but if that matters less to you, definitely give this a try. The price point is high but so worth it if you invest the time to take a lesson every day. It’s not gamified so you definitely need some discipline to do it daily. I would love to see some more development around the bonus packs / more modern slang words, such as bonus episodes to go with the packs. Drilling these doesn’t help out of context. It would also be super cool to see a list of all the words we’ve learned so far in one place.

I use this app everyday. I think it’s great for conversational French. It uses a lot of correct phrasing and idioms that are actually spoken. Buuuuut… I would love if each lesson had a tiny description on what is covered. I am in France for the first time and happen to be a slew on lessons talking about cars, mechanics, etc. Not very a very useful refresher for while I’m here. However, not too far back there were lessons on new verb tenses that would be perfect for right now, but it’s difficult to find. Also I don’t feel the reading aligns with the lesson. It would be nice to see how what I’m learning is spelled. Reading seems a bit random, but certainly still helpful! This app is perfect to do on the go, while commuting or walking. I feel this app helps me think better in French, as opposed to always translating in my head. Would highly recommend. A disclaimer… I took French for four years in high school so I had a good initial understanding of spelling, alphabet, numbers, grammar, etc. This was a perfect building block. Not sure how it would resonate with a brand new speaker. Perhaps it would be more helpful! As a visual learner, because the French don’t pronounce the words how they are spelled made it very confusing in school. I appreciate just speaking. But some things might have a bit more of a learning curve if you have no familiarity with the language! Merci Pimsleur!

I’ve always heard tall tales from polyglots on YouTube who speak +20 languages ranting and raving about Pimsleur but I never bought into it. I just wrote it off as them trying to get a percentage of whatever proceeds the app would give them if they could get their subscribers to sign up. But boyyyyy was I wrong. I’m currently learning Haitian Creole, Spanish & Korean and I could literally cry because this app makes learning languages so smooth! I don’t get overwhelmed easily because they go in such a comfortable pace. Repeating after the native speakers helps me tweak my pronunciation and the spaced repetition method allows me to take my time and gradually improve my language skills each and every day. As someone who loves to learn languages, I finally feel like I found an app that truly works for me. Every morning, I turn on the app and start my day off with a new lesson. It adds a flare to my day and doesn’t interfere with my morning routine. I’m so excited to see just how much Creole, Spanish and Korean I will learn within a month! The amount of time and effort that is put on this app is definitely worth the subscription! Try it out today!
