Simply the best language app I have ever had. I immediately cancelled my Duo Lingo subscription after I took only one lesson on Pimsleur. The courses are designed to help you understand fully the context behind the words you use, and why you use them. I already know how to begin a conversation in a foreign language within one Pimsleur lesson, meanwhile on Duo Lingo it’s still making me learn the Alphabet. If you are having gripes with other apps like Duo Lingo, please check out Pimsleur.

I’ve been learning Portuguese and Spanish on this app and the lessons build perfectly on each other with plenty of review so you never feel overwhelmed. I like the voice coaching option too as it has really helped with pronunciation, especially with Portuguese lol

Pimsleur is an excellent way to start learning a new language. I really appreciate the natural conversation style of learning, and I feel this method helps one absorb the language well. It isn't sufficient by itself, but I would recommend starting with Pimsleur before moving on to other methods. My children have been using the app as well, and have been picking up my native language well. Finally, I highly recommend this for busy people, because you could simply play the lesson in your car on the way to work.
  • Hands down the best way to learn a language!

I have learned 5 foreign languages up to at least a basic conversational ability, and I’ve lived in 3 of those countries while learning their languages. My least proficient language is the one I spent 8 years studying in school and never lived in-country. My latest language is Spanish which I taught myself through Pimsleur while driving. It has enabled me to confidently speak while traveling in Latin America several times since and to communicate with my husband’s family in Ecuador. I plan to purchase French and Italian to brush up and improve my abilities in those languages. Pimsleur gets you speaking (and listening) from the very beginning which is what you need to be able to communicate in another language.

I’ve tried many others and find Pimsleur to be, by far, the best way for me to learn.

  • Missing Key Features

This is a great app to start learning a language in the "listen and repeat" format but lacks basic and key features that would make this app better in the long run. For example, there is no option for closed captions on the lessons for you to read along. It would also help A LOT to correctly pronounce words/phrases specifically during the lessons. It would also be great to adjust the speed of the lecture to 1.25x or 1.5x. Sometimes I don't want to listen to it at a normal speed for 30 minutes. Overall, good lessons but these missing features make it difficult in the long run.
