  • Different then most language apps

I don’t understand why this app is so much better but it is. At first I was like “well these guys teach language in a weird order” but it actually sticks - I’m retaining it. So whatever the logic here, they are doing it right. I normally struggle to retain language. I took 4 years of Spanish and I can’t do anything with it. 3 months of Russian on here and I can actually put together sentences. I LOVE this app.

  • AI harvesting consent, or you don’t get all features

I have used Pimsleur since August 2024 and have been very happy - recommending to colleagues. Today, I opened it to study and found that unless I give consent to AI biometric harvesting, I can not use any Voice Coach modules that are a big part of learning. You have to agree to your voice data being sent to “trusted partners” for Ai processing and analysis. No robust customer privacy policy in place, this is a FAIL.

Pimsleur is an extremely effective language learning app. It starts with basic conversations enables the learner to learn in a near natural setting. Each lesson and conversation build upon it the previous one and enables the learner to learn rather quickly!
  • The best App for learning languages quickly

I speak English and Spanish and I have studied Ancient Greek, Latin, and Hebrew. I learned enough Modern Greek to get around the Peloponnese when I visited there years ago. I love this app for learning languages. You feel confident speaking and listening to native speakers even when you don’t know all the words yet because you learn it like you learned your native language by listening and interacting with native speakers. I found it years ago when it was just CDs, but then recently rediscovered it. I used it help my daughter with her French and then have been using it to learn German for the last few months to help with my son. It’s fantastic. I love the extra options in the “practice” section that were not available in the original and the fact that there are 5 levels to German now. Only 3 were available in the CDs.

As an English native speaker unable to speak any other languages, these were able to get me learning Ukrainian extremely easily. If I had to recommend a language learning app to try it’d be this one.

If you want to be understood and master the basic sounds of a language, use the Pimsleur method. I’ve used it to learn rudimentary Polish, tourist level German and Spanish, and functional French. It’s a wonderful resource
