  • Great way to start learning a language if you keep at it!

I like this app cause it has other languages Duolingo does not have. One thing i’d like to add is another section in Review for writing. I’m learning how to pronounce words and enjoy the knowledge check via flashcards, exam or grammar/culture reviews but i’d like there to be a writing review as well. It could be a comprehensive review of the letters/words you’ve learned thus far, combining the sounds, drawing with the finger, or matches the images. Something that enables me to write within the app. I’m learning Thai and i can only imagine a feature like this would help other languages out such as Japanese.

I like it but it’s very difficult to get used to. I have to be very aware of what I do. These don’t have lessons. Just words. It makes it very difficult to understand. Some things you have to pay attention to.

I’m really disappointed in how incredibly badly this app is designed, especially because it covers so many neglected languages. There’s lots of good information to be learned, but the lessons are all set up as simple multiple choice. At no point in any lesson are you expected to recall a word on your own or to produce your own sentence. It’s just endless fill-in-the-blank with a selection of four words, only one of which could ever possibly be even remotely correct. After doing a few lessons in Albanian (which I actually want to learn), I grew curious about how much this app actually tests and builds your knowledge. I switched to Hungarian — a language I have zero knowledge of, and since it’s an isolate, my other languages won’t help. I scrolled to the final exam of the final lesson… and got 100% correct. This app is all the worst parts of Duolingo. It exists solely to hi make you feel a serotonin rush from pushing buttons. You won’t internalize anything.

I should have known better. You cannot even try it without paying $14. They have a 7-day free trial, but only if you subscribe to the $80/year plan. Immediately deleted...

I am learning Croatian with a tutor but I wanted to add some practice between weekly classes. Ling is the thing! Pimsleur was awesome but they only have one level for Croatian, which I finished. Ling is the best gamified Croatian app I’ve used (I’ve tried lots) but it does have a few glitches to tolerate. If you flag one, the team is very responsive. I’ve used the app on and off and it’s definitely less glitchy than a couple years ago. Learning tip: I read all the Croatian words and phrases aloud when possible to get more practice speaking, which helps my pronunciation and memorization. You’re engaging more of your brain reading aloud than when you’re reading silently. One more comment: the male reader in the dialogues sounds weird, sorry, but overall this is a thoughtful, helpful app to support my learning. I’m grateful that you designed a Croatian curriculum!

This app is slick on the surface, but some of the individual task or phrases suddenly ramp up in difficulty (and are occasionally also erroneous), making it impossible to progress and enjoy learning. They must have been designed by an algorithm, or in a hurry. These glitches cause your practice time to jump up to 2–3 times the usual length, prevent you from moving on in a section, or force you to strategize about how to skip sections and exams selectively.

I tried the free trial for a few days then attempted to cancel my subscription but I was charged anyway. I have contacted the support team and they have not gotten back to me. Don’t use the free trial on this app as they will charge you anyways once the trial period is up. Predatory and unprofessional
