Learned more in three lessons than I did over the course of my 334 day duolingo streak. Finally made the switch and I'm never going back.
  • Starting to feel confident

I’ve studied many languages in the past - Spanish, German, French, Italian, Latin, Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, Polish, Bulgarian, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian. The language that left me feeling defeated was Korean, which I started to study at age 62, when my memory was no longer what it had once been. I studied it first two years at a university but never felt confident. I played around with Duolingo for a while but thought the sentences were absurd, and they never really helped me learn the structures. I recently returned to LingoDeer, and this time I’m loving it. I love how vocabulary and structures are presented methodically, and I’m now - finally - - at age 72 - starting to feel as though I’m getting a grasp on the language. I can hardly wait to surprise my Korean friends by actually being able to respond to what they say rather than have to refer to Papago all the time. It’s nice to feel hopeful again! Update: I really love LingoDeer’s updates, especially the pronunciation and spelling exercises!

It all started out very well I’m doing the Korean course I did the first story time and posted it and then I realized 2 hours later that someone stole mine and I don’t think that’s ok: Nevermind there was something wrong with my phone sorry the app is great
  • One lesson?

After Duolingo switched to AI I wanted to support another platform, but I would much rather listen to ads in between lessons than not be able to learn anything becuase I have to pay 15$ a month to use the app. If there was another option to continue learning I would give this app 5 stars no problem, because the learning is so intuitive I give it 2 stars, but I wish I could give it 5. Sadly, I won’t get to know more than the first lesson.
  • App is Great - Old Format Was Better

I’m not a fan of the new format. Is there any way to give users the option to toggle between the new and old formats?
  • Best app ever!!!

I was on Duolingo, and after finishing so much I still haven’t learned Japanese. But, in only one lesson on LingoDeer I learned so much! As someone who doesn’t want to spend money on apps, LingoDeer was so much help!!
  • Stability issues.

The audio sometimes just doesn’t play, the images to match the word don’t show up. When I say “I can’t listen now” to the audio prompt my app crashes. This app is amazing but the stability issues make it incredibly frustrating to use.
  • Idk who these new updates are for

I bought the subscription to this app because especially for Asian languages this app was the best. However they’ve been making changes to make it more like another app (Duolingo) when the reason people like LingoDeer is explicitly because it was far better. The Japanese course I really liked because it forced me to write out sentences in exercises now you just click from letters and flashcards no need to really challenge yourself. I hope LingoDeer listens to its customers and stops trying to court an audience with changes that will push out its paying subscribers
  • Most effective language learning app

I’ve used Rosetta Stone, Busuu, Duolingo and Babbel. Bought lifetime premium and have never looked back. Enjoy the multi faceted approach that really makes me think and makes it stick. And the app keeps getting better with time!
  • Good app, if you’re willing to pay

What little I was able to do without paying $15 a month, was good; I enjoyed my brief experience. I did the first lesson for Korean 1 titled “Nationalities”. Literally all the other lessons in Korean 1 are locked behind a pay-wall. I could hop over to Korean 2, and do the first lesson there, but I’m a total beginner, so I’m absolutely not ready to go to Korean 2 😅. At this point, if I wish to continue my studies, I’ll just buy a book or course; something that I can purchase one time, and not have to pay a subscription for.
