The content is interesting and relevant and the reporting is superlative. Equally impressive is the drive to stay relevant by presenting media in multiple formats, from print to podcasts and short videos.” “Impeccable journalism with an app to match. The Economist doesn’t need my endorsement of the quality of their journalism. It speaks for itself. Rather, I’ll comment that their app is well-designed and refreshing to use…I love being able to easily download entire editions, listen to articles with real narrators and search for past articles.” Full terms of use: https://www.economist.com/legal/terms-of-use Our privacy policy: https://www.economist.com/privacy Download The Economist app now for trusted reporting on news developments—from science and tech to business and finance news.

  • Constant App Updates

This app is basically unusable. Every single time I open it, it requires an app update to see any content.
  • Too many forced updates

As a software professional, I don’t see how an almost weekly update disruption to the user experience is necessary. Also the magazine downloads require multiple clicks. As someone who reads the weekly this is just a poor overall experience
  • Sleep Timer

Having a sleep timer on the podcasts would be game changing. I enjoy drifting off to sleep to a podcast. I don’t want it to play all night.
  • Humans replaced by AI

I use daily The Economist App to give myself a briefing on the news and related podcasts and real people narrated articles. This week a new update only shows the world in brief with AI narrated articles, and the autoplay feature? Gone. With all due respect, I subscribed to The Economist for the people narrated articles and the work in brief. Now, I see that being diluted and against your own statement to have a majority of articles narrated by humans. I’m now having to use the espresso app to hear my brefing in the morning, the exact same information as in the economist app, just not AI narrated, and since the espresso app does not have access to the same articles, now I just don’t listen to any at all.

My use case is to listen at night before bed - there is no longer a way to listen to all unlistened to tracks and no timer feature
  • Frustrating

Reading an article, getting a call, talking for 15 minutes, coming back to read and the app reloads losing the place I was at. Happens all the time.

    Stupidly expensive and completely unnecessary.

Not as intuitive as previous app
  • Biased and increasingly biased!

Making an assertion that Trump is unpopular is just wrong! I’ve always been left and a Canadian living in the US. To me, he has performed on so many levels. You should spend more time talking to real people and less time being assuaged by metrics that support your bias. I hereby cancel my subscription.

The Economist is the most insightful and interesting magazine to which I have ever subscribed. (And I’m 80 years old, which means I’ve been able to subscribe to countless magazines in my life.)
