I have had HIDIVE for about a few years but not anymore. They are increasing prices and removing content. The app still does not work and the lack of content does not justify the price increase.
  • Not surprised this was developed in Texas

I could list out the reasons why you should never download the app but ill save us the time. Just use your web browser. Why? Because it was developed by a 5 year old and QA by a 1 year old.
  • Finally an update…but uh….you made it worse in some ways.

I was excited to see this app finally get an update. There are some nice new features. But somehow, you made the app worse! Perfect example….the list of episodes to continue watching. WHAT ANIME ARE THESE FROM? There’s an EP number, and a title….but no indication of what anime. If you click on one….the details page is the same. No anime title to be seen. Sheesh. One step forward, one step back….
  • Genuinely the worst UI/UX to ever exist on a streaming app

They changed the UI a few months ago and made the app almost useless. They should fire whoever thought of this design. It’s hard to imagine that the person who designed this has ever used or even seen a streaming app before. Reminds me of the medieval paintings by people who had never seen a cat before. I’m surprised they haven’t rolled back to the version before that terrible release. The UX was already pretty bad but at least had the minimum in features. The app doesn’t even track the last episode in a series that the user watched anymore. Under the “Continue Watching” section, it just displays an incorrect list of all the episodes that had like 10 seconds remaining. Instead of showing the series or even season I last watched, it shows an episode, that I can’t even get to the series from. There’s no button or anything to go from an episode to the series page or any way at all to move to a different episode. The only way to even use the app any more is to create a list of favorites, so that I can find the series I’m watching and then find the episode from there. You will have to memorize the last episode you watched or else you’ll be clicking through random episodes since there is no indication that you have watch any of the episodes from the series page. I genuinely feel bad for the developers that had to work hard to create this terrible of a product. The work culture must be horrible for literally anyone working under the design lead to have to build this.

Somehow they made the app worse? It was already the worst app I’ve ever used, hands down, but the latest update made it essentially broken. It’s 2024, why can’t I have a list of shows I’ve saved? Or a watch history that actually works? And they had the audacity to raise prices recently! Is the app developer just one guy in a closet working on it during his off time? Good grief

The app will never show where I left off on a series so I have to go to watchlist, find the show I want to watch then try and remember what episode I’m on. No skip intro and I can only skip in increments of 30 seconds. There are so many things wrong with this app and it’s crazy that no updates have been made. Also, if you are watching while on the go, and just happen to have a slight disconnect from service, when it returns, the episode starts back over from the begging rather then where you left off it’s beyond annoying.
  • 2020 design, 2000 functionality

My guess as to how this app came to be: the design team has never designed an app before, and they just looked at a couple modern apps and tried to make it look kind of similar. They told management it would take them a few months to get it done, and they were only given a few days. Then as soon as the app was released, they fired the whole team and didn't bother replacing them. That's the only way this travesty of an app makes sense. With the exception of "it plays the video you tell it to," nothing works. It has all the elegance of going to Redbox to get a video, except your only DVD player is Windows Media Player from Windows 98.
  • Honestly not a good app at all

The only upside to paying for HIDIVE is that it lets you watch the anime they have exclusively. It rarely remembers which episodes you’ve watched. The UI is terrible and they just put just about any anime in any category. If you don’t want to visit a sketchy site but want to watch those one or two anime they are the only streaming service offering. Go ahead, just write down what episode you are on.

They finally made the AirPlay function usable rather than being forced to screen mirror because AirPlay wouldn’t connect but now when using AirPlay you no longer see subtitles that you have when just streaming on your phone, defeats the entire purpose and now I can’t use screen mirroring to watch either. All this casually after getting a notification that they’re raising prices. Love the shows and don’t want to lose the access but it’s making it really hard to stick around.
